As someone who had never heard a Frank Turner album before this, I actually really enjoy the whole thing and come back to it fairly frequently.

I completely forgot that the Sleepwalkers came out this year and I LOVE that album

I got Sleepwalkers in early December last year, so yeah, that feels like a 2017 album to me.

Music, a steady riot in my soul. Prestigious

“How It Began” is floating around on the Internet, but that’s the only b-side I know of so far.

I listened to him on the Lead Singer Syndrome podcast recently, and he said he already has his next record written and is hoping to record it early next year, so hopefully we’ll be getting a lot more music over the upcoming months. I’m not in the camp that completely hates this as there are several tracks I love (as well as several that are near the bottom of his discography), but I’m guessing he’s well aware of the lukewarm (at best) reaction this has gotten from a lot of his fans regardless of how proud he may seem.

I definitely don't hate this. It's kind of too mild to hate. I just don't think it's interesting/very good/worth going back to outside of a couple tracks.

I listened to that post cast. He gives a good interview.

I think it's bad but it's mostly annoying because I know he's capable of so much better.

I think it feels like it was released last year for me because typically if a Frank album comes out, it’s always in my head for a top ten (usually top five) year-end contender. This one won’t make the list.

But yeah, Frank’s catalogue has done so much for me that one kind of misstep of an album isn’t really a big deal to me. If this is album he wanted to make, that’s great!

Still here for his live shows and excited for another album.

I wonder if this is the concept record about women throughout history (or something like that) that he wrote and then put on hold in order to record Be More Kind? I'd love to have a new Frank Turner record in 2019. That concept record sounds so much more intriguing than Be More Kind.

I was wondering that too. He played quite a few songs from it, and it seems like the kind of thing he might put out with such a short turn around for another one.

I hope so. I was looking forward to that.
I also hope he does this.

I hate to say it, but there people out there who’d say it’s not his place to write a concept album aboutwomen throughout history.

I’m not saying it’s anyone here, or any Frank fan. Anyone who knows him and his music would know he’ll find a cool approach for this. Franks has just been judged hard over the song Make America Great Again. He took a term and tried to make it his version of what it should mean instead of how Trump is using it. He still gets skewered.

I remember Gaslight Anthem’s “Here Comes My Man” also having outsiders say what does he know about a women’s perspective. The point was, he was trying to relate or understand the other point of view.

Again, these are usually uneducated outsider opinions. Hollywood is going through it now, but at least with smaller and braver artists will continue to try what they want. I guess thats part of the punk world I’ve always appreciated.

I’d love to hear whatever Frank puts out. Even if people don’t like it, he generally seems to believe in it (or is willing to be critical of it after the fact).

Ok so i’m in the grocery store - king kullen to be exact - my wifes ringtone is “the way i tend to be”, she calls me as im making my way through the store, the ringtone goes off, i answer the phone, and as soon as i answer the call and turn off the ringer, i kid not, “the way i tend to be” starts playing over the speakers in king freakin’ kullen.

    I am thoroughly freaked.

Be More Kind was a slow grower. I like it though. I think the sequence of the last few songs, and album may have hurt it.

I haven’t read Franks first book, but he’s very well spoken and always enjoy his interviews.

Hi first book is a must-read if you're even a casual fan. He is a great story teller, and some of his stories are hilarious, and he really goes into details regarding the struggles of early touring. really great.

Loved his first book. Just finished that up a couple months ago. Definitely something you can pick up at random and read a chapter or two without much context of his entire career.

Desperately in need of a new Frank EP (or 2 or 3) with some new songs on it..... Usually he releases at least 1 or sometimes a couple EPs with some of the songs that didn't make the cut. I really wanna hear some of the songs that didn't make it onto Be More Kind.

Not sure if you’ve heard it or not but there is a b-side out there called How It Began. It’s an acoustic track, he played it live in Boston.

Thanks for the heads up. I checked out "How It Began" and its a nice pleasant track. I was seriously underwhelmed by Be More Kind, and I'm really hoping there are some other songs from those sessions that might help. Also, a live album from this era would be amazing. He puts on such a stellar live show and I really haven't been able to find many high quality videos of the Be More Kind songs live. The low-quality live videos I can find do seem to breathe some life into the songs though.
