Maybe a hot take and maybe partially recency/too many Nationwide commercials bias but Peyton might not make my top 5 of all time. I’d rather have Brady, Rodgers, or Brees, at least.

It might be a bit of recency bias but I could see the argument. I do always think about how the NFL seemed to make it easier for Peyton by changing/reemphasizing rules in the QB's favor every time he got embarrassed.

Anyway I think Peyton's in my top 5 in terms of careers but I do keep going back to that

I agree, I was listening to WIP today and Jon Marks is on Wentz hate train and he went off on a thing about Manning not being clutch because he only won one ring. It was annoying.

After the snake discussion I ordered a snake charming flute online because I think they sound pretty/interesting and now all my advertising recommendations are toy cobras as if I'm some kind of fucking poser

Montana and Marino are the other two who'd rotate top 5 for me, with Brady/Rodgers/Brees/Manning, but I never saw them play, or was super young, and it's a different passing era, so there's a lot to consider. But just gut call, I'd rather have Brady/Rodgers/Marino/Montana/Brees than Manning if it was my favorite team with everything on the line, while acknowledging he's as great as a quarterback could ever be.

Also since I missed the meat discussion, bison is fantastic.

I drove through Yellowstone once and there was a bison walking along one lane of the road and the thing was the size of our car. Woulda effed us up.

I think I'd put Manning above Brees and Marino in terms of his actual career. Maybe above Montana, idk. It's so hard to evaluate Montana on a team with Jerry Rice and Dwight Clark hahaha. But Peyton's dissection of defenses was just so incredible, it's hard to ignore and it's amazing what a better coach would've done for his career. I guess I'd put him in the Rodgers tier of "We're amazing QBs who have shit coaches and rosters and pay for it". Not sure who would go above or below that tier, only that Brady would be above.

Peyton over Montana should earn a week long thread ban.

Those 49ers teams were LOADED and you can't tell me it's possible to evaluate Joe Montana in a vacuum for his performance on those teams

A coach makes SO much of a difference on how the QB performs and Peyton Manning had a bit of past his prime Tony Dungy and a load of shit for a career

I don't think Montana and Manning are THAT far apart, but the entire take was half baked and I refuse to look at detailed film or numbers to back up my gut favoring a quarterback I just like more in general, so take it for what you will

Can't we say a lot of rule changes helped Brees along the way as well ?

I mean they really helped QBs in general in our era (Brady/Manning/Brees/Rodgers) but they always seemed to happen after Peyton specifically got torn apart in the game (2003 AFC Championship vs NE, 2013 Super Bowl vs SEA). It felt like Peyton was the NFL's golden boy.

This is also true, but I don't wanna take nothing away from these guys because I love them but the TD pass streak Brees broke just wasn't that impressive to me. I guess it's because of the era of the league.
