Yeah, I'm saying the things you specifically are saying show you don't understand it. You called it backwards logic haha. That doesn't scream "I get this, I just don't agree with it"

 

I understand the logic behind the trade, but i'm willing to bet they screw up the draft anyways because Gruden sucks so they probably shouldn't have traded Mack

 

I do get it but to me it’s backward to *assume they would fail to rebuild a deeper roster if they kept Mack, but that they’ll succeed with those extra picks.

Mack’s prime is long enough that it could have afforded them time to reap the benefits. You can turn a team around in 3-4 years with normal drafts and trades. I’d rather have that starting point than have the pressure replace him too even if I had two more first round picks. That’s what I’m saying

 

Two first round picks makes for a deeper roster though.

 

Like, yeah two first round picks certainly increases your chances your team will get good faster. But so does having a CRAZY good pass rusher AND run defender.

In fact with Mack on the line, they probably wouldn’t need to invest nearly as much into the rest of their DL to have a pass rush. So he actually saves them a draft pick or two by being that good.

 

It's not even that the Raiders are bad though. It's that they are bad AND have to replace their current team. It's not even like the Jags or the Jets where they have good pieces, they just need it all to come together. The CORE of their team are 30 year olds trying to cling to their career.

What that tells me is they already have a lot of players to replace and roles to fill. Why add another, EXTREMELY HARD ROLE to fill, to that huge list of things they already had to do for the rebuild? You get 2 more chances sure but Mack had a 100% chance and he was already upholding a standard that you now have to coach new players up to.

 

Why are we still arguing about this it's clear Gruden has a plan and that plan was to just create enough chaos so Oakland isn't as mad about them leaving for LV

 

I think “can you replace that talent” is a valid question when trading a player. They can EASILY replace COoper with another first round receiver. That’s not true for Mack, even the best pass rushers in some drafts don’t come close. For example, the 2015 draft didn’t even have a DE1.

 

This is the best defensive line class in a very long time. It's not that hard to replace.

That’s why I bring up 2015 though. Fowler, Beasley, Ray, Dupree, Mario Edwards, Preston Smith. We thought all those guys were gonna be good. Now not one of them is a leading pass rusher on their team. This is why I think Mack is still possibly worth more than two first round picks.

I think I was high on two of those guys. Beasley had a 15.5 sack season. Edwards wasn't a first round pick. This class looks far better than that one.

 

Next years will be better

 

I hope they gave up their 2nd rounder
