Condescending much? Shift your attitude in reverse and maybe we can keep talking about this haha

Usually teams have a starting point when they rebuild. What the Jags did, completely rewriting 53 players in 3 years? Thats really not normal and it took us a lot longer to get good because we started from scratch. And it might not have even been sustainable, given the very real idea that we miss the playoffs this year

According to Matt you just don’t get the concept of team building *shrug*

No I mean I really don't think you get it haha. You're talking about trying to replace Mack. It's not about replacing Mack or his talent. You have an absolutely HORRENDOUS team. Mack is not going to make that team competitive. Having a balanced team is VERY important. If we had JUST Ramsey surrounded by mediocrity, we wouldn't have done shit last year. This is a TEAM sport. At the absolute best, a QB can carry a team to success. Never heard of a DE being the ONLY reason a team wins.

Look at any team that rebuilds. Pass rush is one of the first goddamn places they start. If you haven’t heard of DE being a key part of keeping teams full of holes competitive then you haven’t been paying attention. They fuck up opponents drives and field position and create turnovers. No he won’t win you the game by himself but he can singlehandedly keep the game much closer and give your offense better chances to attack. He can make it easier on your secondary and give them leeway to make mistakes cause the QB has less time to spot them. He can make it easy on your linebackers by occupying several blockers on running plays and giving them free lanes to the ballcarrier.

Like what the fuck you’re gonna sit here and condescend all of us without realizing the first thing Gruden is gonna do is find another pass rusher who almost definitely isn’t gonna hold a candle to Mack

Like it’s probably not smart to trade any player that is top 3 at a premium position

You need a QB, then you need the guy that rushes the QB, then you need the guy that protects the QB

Right, like that’s the goal is to get a top 3 pass rusher. If you already have one and trade him and can’t replace him that’s not good team building, you lost a vital part of an upcoming team being able to win some games

I'm not being condescending to anyone. You genuinely don't seem to understand. Khalil Mack is 28 years old. Of course you aren't going to find a rookie that comes into the league as good as him. It's not about 1:1 replacing that exact level talent ASAP. It's about filling out your roster. The Raiders have a horrendous roster. Mack is not going to help that team find success because they are full of massive holes that need to be filled.

Trading good players before they decline to get good picks is smart

Trading generational players before they aren't generational anymore is losing your chance at a generational talent

Again, I just don't think you get it haha. You are getting a guy that is 6-8 years younger for tens of millions less. THAT'S good team building. So what if Bosa/Oliver doesn't do everything Mack can do? They are freed up with cap space, they've got far more time to build, and they are a deeper team.

I do agree with the sentiment that trading Mack is better for what they're trying to do though, now whether they execute that plan is highly debatable

It's too early to say whether it was a good trade anyways. You have to see how he uses those picks, so both sides of the argument have no footing to be so confident, hahaha

Exactly. We can't pretend this is in a vacuum. If the Bears were ones to trade Mack, that would be moronic. The Cardinals and Raiders are pretty much the only two teams that could trade Mack and have it not be completely stupid. Because those teams are BAAAAAAAD. Like....BAAAAAD. Maybe the Bills too. Idk.

Yeah the Raiders do not need cap space. They already got a second first round pick from Amari Cooper. Having a generational talent AND two first round picks already lined up would’ve been good team building. They’re not a team in cap hell that can’t afford their talent?? THAT would require the kind of rebuild you’re talking about. Otherwise it’s best to hold onto the one or two best, franchise defining players on your team while you rebuild the rest.

Trading away Cooper was the absolute right thing to do for them, especially since the Cowboys were idiotic enough to give them a 1st for him. He's due for a new contract that he's not worth so better to get out now

    The
Let me just make it simple - you want the best pass rusher possible for a rebuild. No matter how you set up your team you ain’t gonna do much without a pass rush. Mack is a top 3 pass rusher for at least the next 4 years of his career. A rebuild has a LOT OF PARTS but pass rush is so important to get “right” that id rather have a sure thing at that position, and roll the dice on potential at other positions.

The Cooper trade happened way after the Mack trade, so you can't use it in an argument when looking at the past as if it's already done.

It’s just weird because Mack makes the bears better which likely translates to a better record which means those picks are less valuable

From how I see it, it’s more about the cap hit needed to keep mack and gruden not wanting to allocate that cap space to Mack

That doesn’t seem smart unless Mack is just asking for a ridiculous contract not in line with other top pass rushers

If he was pat pete and indicated he didn’t want to be there then of course see what u can get for him, but otherwise keep your blue chipper

    TLDR whatevs

@CarpetElf I really think you’re over exaggerating to say that keeping one player who is a top 10 player in the league period, is bad for a rebuild. It’s a 53 man roster and I’m talking about ONE player who would perform well no matter what happened to his team.

Like you can still blow up the rest of the roster and still trade for picks etc... just don’t get rid of a player that is better than the best player on most teams in the league.

What percentage of the Raiders payroll did Mack take up at the time?

At the time? Probably like none of it since he was on that rookie deal. Would have to factor in his new deal to get an accurate number.
