Honestly our DL hasn't been very mentally strong. A 3 game skid is not a reason to play that far below your potential. You can tell they're frustrated and you can tell they're tired from being on the field so much, but I definitely also think attitude plays a part.

I want to see them step UP their game when the offense is struggling and somewhat carry the team. They need to rush throws on 3rd down, they need to sack the QB out of field goal range & away from the goal line, they need to force some fumbles, they need to give us easier scoring opportunities. They need to make the opposing offense feel just as "off" as ours does. They definitely did that some games in '16 and '17.

We have a LOTTT of money & draft capital on our line -- if they fall apart when the offense struggles, what's the point?

Schefter was just talking about Bell not coming back to sign the franchise tender until the trade deadline has passed.

 

So from what rap is reporting, it seems like leveon will literally not let the steelers trade them and pretend like nothing happened this whole time only to rack up stats and then get paid by someone else.

Thinking more about the trade with the Raiders and getting him now makes sense for our team right now and for the future, just sucks that it was a 1st round pick. They were getting offers from other teams and their 2nd round picks, so I guess we're rolling the dice to see if he's worth anything.

We would have picked up a FA WR this offseason or used our 1st round pick on a WR pick anyway, so I guess it's like using that pick now to kick his tires and see if he fits in our system.

I like the idea of being aggressive and getting him now instead of waiting, just sucks that it was a 1st.

 

Pretty safe to say it's a bad call right now. Might help your offense out, but still a bad call to give up what you gave up.

 

I guess I’d rather miss on something like that now than pay for a FA WR and a long contract or whiff on a 1st round pick completely.

right but first round picks are like, the law of averages. It's already a challenge to knock first round picks out of the park, already a decent chance the player won't pan out. So by trading away first round picks you make the chances even SLIMMER that your regime gets enough of those long term impact players to be competitive. It's very easy to miss, so you want to maximize your opportunities, hence why 1st round picks are valued higher in trades than most existing players.

Sure there's a chance you'll whiff on the pick and wish you traded for a WR earlier instead... but the flip side is, if you're being realistic that maybe 2 of 5 first round picks become amazing and not just decent players, there's a chance you missed one of those rare two amazing players in 5 years, so that you could have Amari Cooper, who you already know is not an amazing player and probably just a high end WR2.

I wouldn't call it rolling the dice. It's more like giving someone else all your poker chips and in exchange walking away with the 100 dollar bill in their wallet. You paid top investment for a solid but not great known commodity.

 

You're gonna have to pay Copper $14mil next year...and basically have to match the #1WR deals to keep him beyond that

Considering the Cowboys arent a team thats gonna go deep into the playoffs, seems like it'd have been smarter to let Gallup develop, sign a FA WR for that money, adn use the 1st rounder on rebuilding the O-line again.

If Cooper can perform the way he did in 2015 and 2016, this trade won’t look as bad. He was pretty electric when he came into the league. I’m not sure what happened this year and last.

Would easily give up a 1st for Patrick Peterson though. He's got a pretty reasonable deal for the next 3 years...and you could easily guarantee a bunch of it up front in a restructure, etc.

 

I hope p2 ends up on a team that's good so he could actually make the playoffs for the 3rd time before he turns 30

 

Lot of players burst onto the scene and then fall off. He's got excellent physical tools and he runs great routes. But defenses watching film around the league figured out what he likes to do, and exactly how he uses footwork and acceleration to create that separation, and now it's "what else you got?" Cooper has not responded to that adversity with more versatility, and he won't reach that next level unless he does.
