I fail to see how that's related at all, but I'm seeing she was sentenced to 90 days. Am I missing something?

I didn't see that until recently. The point of the article was, why is a black activist potentially facing a harsher sentence than rapist? But, if you really wanted to, you could use other cases where black men and women have faced stiffer charges than the man who perpetrated the rape we were discussing.

I've been seeing analogies that drug possession carries longer sentences than rape.

I know people have replied to this lately, but I've been reflecting a lot about this recently. I think the first step is okay, this man's actions are not ancient history, they were uncovered less than two years ago, meaning that you cannot just totally repent and be "oaky" after such a short span, considering the scope of his actions. To put it in perspective, the singer of YMAEWK had to basically break up his band and disappear for four years because he got caught stealing money, but Jake's ready to be integrated into the music scene he preyed on a mere months later? I don't think so.

Second of all, I think if he were ever to be "rehabilitated", he'd have to demonstrate that he's remorseful not because of the repercussions, but because of the harm he caused. So far, he's released a poor statement, whined on stage at the one Warped Tour date he played, and fake-cried his way through a song about how HE has found God. Nothing about this is someone who has understood the magnitude of his actions, rather it's someone who's lamenting on the fact that he got busted.

I also think he would need to somehow make amends with his victims and find a way to make it right with them before anything. As a manipulator, I don't know how valid that would ultimately be, but I don't think anyone he's hurt has come out to say "okay, he made it right with me". Rather, we've seen statements about his continued abuse even after the victims left.

Personally, I would be absolutely fine/encourage him to never play another show or release another song again, and continue his life working somewhere where he is not a risk to harm others, but if we're talking about potential to reintegrate into music, I think he has an extremely large mountain to climb, and he's made nowhere near the first step.

Leslie Rasmussen, who is a lifelong friend of Brock Turner and the drummer of the band Good English, blamed the sexual assault case on political correctness gone wild. In light of her defense of Turner, her band was forced off a scheduled festival appearance.

I haven't really followed the details of this case, but a lady at work who seems to spend all her time talking anything but work was complaining to one of her customers about how this guy's career was ruined because there was no accountability on the victim's part

  10. My feelings on this are so mixed because on the one hand, I believe the festival responded appropriately to that sort of rape-apologism.

On the other hand, it sits really badly with me that they are this quick to levy punishment against a band of all women over something like this when male musicians can do much worse in a single day on Twitter and face no professional consequences for it.

I read her "clarification" post before I read her character statement. I was like hmmm she sounds sketch but I'll give the benefit of the doubt and read what she originally wrote and OMG it was so vile. With all the people around him coddling and making excuses for him I'm not at all surprised at how entitled he is and why he doesn't think he did anything wrong aside from drinking too much or whatever bs he's pushing. I do agree that I wish men were held to the same standards when it came to defending horrible people. Boy's clubs stay remaining in tact. I feel bad for the internalized misogyny she seems to hold inside

also omg I cannot read anything about the Swedish guys who tackled him without tearing up. Sometimes I get very cynical and it's nice being reminded that not everyone is horrible.

Yeah, because THAT is why they're writing about him, not the whole choosing to rape someone thing.

I just read that there is an account set up to help pay for Brock's legal fees and an old family friend said they'd donate because they are "Very concerned" for their son and the loss "the bright future he had in front of him"

"My wife remembered he was always the first one to say 'seat belts' in the car" the family friend said. "For us it was really a shock. It's not the Brock we know"

    FUCK. OFF

Why does someone think the fact that Brock told them to buckle up once means hes not a rapist? This story legitimately baffles me every fucking second.
