No spoilers, but I thought this sucked ass. It’s a generic ‘90s thriller with the “Halloween” name attached to it.

Jk. That’s a bummer to hear though.

Haha. And I’ll say that part of it comes from being put in with an audience that was one of the all-times worst movie experiences. But really, it does absolutely nothing clever or adds anything new to the franchise.

yeah but it has cheryl/carol/cristal/cherlene in it so it can't be THAT bad, right

Is it at least better than the awful sequels before it? Like if that’s the case, I’m willing to forgive it’s faults.

Lol, A.A.Dowd says it’s worse than H20. I refuse to believe that, based on the sole fact that this doesn’t have a Creed song in it.

Just bought a ticket for a Saturday morning, 11:45 showing, haha. Fits my schedule best right now. Whatever I'm still excited!

Calling this movie generic is quite funny. It’s a slasher film. If you went to see a slasher film and were let down that it was a slasher film....I just don’t get it.

DGG and McBride wanted to do a proper sequel that creeps people out and does the story justice. If they succeeded in that, whilst having general praise from critics and fans alike, then this movie won.

If a slasher film does absolutely nothing new and just runs through the usual tropes, that's what it is - it's generic. There's very little in this that creeps anyone out. It's a poor effort.

That’s your opinion of the genre. What would’ve made it better for you? Supernatural elements? Michael transforms at the end? It was all a Dream?

Before you knock it, ask yourself what you expected and what you were looking for in the first place.

I've only seen Halloween 1-3 and H20, so I can't speak to the other ones. It might be a bit better than H20, but I like H20's ending more than this.

Character development, actual characters, subplots that aren't forgotten at the drop of a hat, comedy that's placed well in the movie, not incorporating twists for the sake of having twists

The last thing I'll say: One of the things I think they do right is the work with Strode's character. It's pretty interesting and should have been most of the movie. Unfortunately, it focuses on a bunch of other characters that don't matter.

Lol the ending of H20 is pretty bad. Lady grabs a gun like NBD and holds a crowd at gunpoint, steals a truck and a body and no one lifts a finger, practically wave her goodbye with no pursuit.

Laurie Strode walks away from a van flip x1000 and has the strength to clean slice a grown man’s head off in one swing?

I think this can all be chucked up to a matter of opinion of course. I’m not mad at anyone who may not enjoy this, but I prefer to hear more than just “it’s a typical slasher film” like duh that’s exactly what I want, except a great one that serves the Halloween franchise, and Carpenter for that matter, justice.

To this point... this is a sequel. A sequel that is only carrying over 2 characters from the original. You said Laurie is done right in the film, so that leaves Michael, who is obviously Michael and doesn’t speak so there is no call for his development because that’s Michael Myers. Everyone else, what do you need for them to be substantial? You’d rather have the movie spend time giving backstories to side characters who are all victims in the wake of Michael’s wrath?

How exactly do you decide that?

In the original movie, the only backstory you get of the girls he stalks is that they’re babysitters, and they have plans for the night to get drunk and talk boys while doing so. You find out one of them is the daughter of the Sheriff.

That’s it. The rest of the movie is a “generic slasher” then and that movie would suck by these standards.

Okay, man. You clearly want to ignore context and whatever I'm saying because you don't want to hear that I thought this was bad. I'm not going to do a point-by-point analysis of everything this movie, which you haven't seen, does wrong. Maybe I will after. I hope you enjoy it since you're clearly a big fan. I did not.

Movies in any genre can absolutely be generic.
You can go to an action movie and still be let down by it being boring, generic, etc.
    Same with a comedy.
I don't think any genre is excluded by that critique.

Though I don't know @Zilla well, I always enjoy seeing their opinions early on. Just hoping mine is different this time!

I don't hold the original all that close to my heart, so I'm not expecting to be let down because I don't have super high hopes or anything. As long as it's entertaining, I'm greased.
