Knowing what you like, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'd rank it with Hereditary and Mandy as the strongest horror films in some time

 

God Apostle was so fucking good.

Watched Apostle last night. It was a beautiful film with great acting, but overall I found it to be pretty underwhelming. I wasn’t really a fan of the story tbh.

 

I'll be shocked if you don't like it, the cinematography alone is staggering (there are a couple jaw dropping shots) and it works as a terrifying yet wholly subversive update to The Wicker Man

 

Read an interview with the director and he talked about doing that intentially and when I came across it the first time I was like nope nope nope, fuck this hahah

 

Apostle has some incredibly cool shit, especially cinematography, but I was disappointed as well somewhat. Still worth a watch.

First episode of Haunting of Hill House was kind of meh. Guess it picks up? I was kind of surprised Slant gave it 4 starts from that alone, but I’ll stick with it.

 

The whole time I was watching Apostle I was like ok where's Martin Sheen?

Also watched Halloween 4 last night. It's probably the one I've seen most on cable as a kid, but first time watching it beginning to end.

 

I agree. Some very cool moments but didn't love it overall.

 

Has anyone ever seen Scarecrow Gone Wild? My two best friends and I rented it back in high school,got high, and thought it was the most hilarious thing ever. I can’t believe I forgot about it until just now, gonna have to find it.

 

I don’t think Mandy is ever coming here and I’m bummed.

 

we need to talk about Hill House. It’s so good. I didn’t expect it to be this good. Lots of very memorable scenes. Bent neck lady is going to be stuck in my head for a while.

I’m going to watch Apostle next weekend. Huge fan of Gareth.

 

I don't think there should be a Gareth Edwards and a Gareth Evans. It's confusing and we shouldn't allow it.

very excited to start Hill House tonight! huge fan of Flanagan outside of Before I Wake, will report back. let me know what you think of Apostle! so far I'm among the few that has loved it

 

I liked Before I Wake

 

One problem Apostle has in my opinion is that a little more time should’ve been taken to explain the cult and the island a little more. Like I get that sometimes less is more but like take a couple minutes and do some explaining to get the audience up to speed.

Okay, I get that most horror movies aren’t gonna wow you with dialogue but what the actual fuck is that line lol. That makes absolutely no sense and is not a metaphor or analogy in any way shape or form lol

I thought I saw something in the first episode but assumed it was just me seeing things when it didn’t do anything

 

In the third episode it's brief, but there's a figure standing in the background on the right side of the screen at 38:20, right after the jump scare. In the second episode, it's during the sequence that starts at 4:10. Keep your eyes on the background to the right again. In the first episode, which is easiest to notice, it's at about 50:40.

 

I liked Apostle, but I didn't LOVE it. Good performances, great setting and cinematography, some cool moments and imagery, just not as gripping as I was hoping.

 

Just finished watching The Taking of Deborah Logan for the second or third time. Scary shit.

 

Very underrated. Actress who plays Deborah does a magnificent job.

It’s kinda amusing how 90% of the IMDB reviews for Haunting of Hill House are clearly bots and of course, they all give the show 9/10 or 10/10
