A24 would have to mount a big campaign to get her nominated (sadly that’s how awards season works). The movie made money with critical success (plus she’s a past nominee) but she’ll be overlooked. She’s more likely with the genre awards, and possibly Independent Spirit Awards.

 

About to watch this for the first time on a flight. So pumped. Heard a lot of good things about it.

There's only a few films where I'm like, "I'm glad I saw it but I'll be fine if I never see it again", off top of my head, Requiem For A Dream, We Need To Talk About Kevin, and United 93.

 

We Need to Talk About Kevin went too far, imo. I've never seen United 93, but I love Requiem and feel like it gets better with each watch. Other movies I'd throw on that list are Gaspar Noe's Irreversible and Isao Takahata's Grave of the Fireflies.

 

I loved We Need to Talk about Kevin.

United 93 is an incredible film I've seen and bought but have little need to go back and watched it.

I didn't really care for Requiem for a Dream. It was alright.

I have no plans to see Irreversible. I'm not into torture porn and that's what I heard it is.

Not interested in Grave of the Fireflies.

 

I've seen Requiem multiple times, also agree it gets more interesting with subsequent watches. DEFINITELY gotta be in the mood for it though.

I want to see Hereditary a second time to catch things I didn't before. Anything worth getting on the Bluray?

And Requiem is just brutal to watch, don't need to endure that a second time.

if we are talking movies that went too far, my sister and i settled on Martyrs one time when looking for a scary movie and it was one of the most resoundingly awkward experiences of my life lol

 

It is pretty horrifying. He did a great job capturing the whole event.

mother! is in my Prime queue now and I keep wanting to watch but end up backing out, haha

 

Mother! is tense and okay for the first two acts and then the third is some nonsense that undoes it all imo

 

I don't mind nonsense in certain movies, so I'm sure I'll dig it.

For the most part, I think Aronofsky is brilliant.

 

The third act is the best part.

 

Mother! becomes a different movie entirely imo, i can’t really say why i disliked it without spoiling it though

 

this is a hot take but i respect it

i thought the first two thirds instilled a very real, practical sense of anxiety. guess if i hate hosting large groups of people? lol
