EDIT: and Black Sunday. This is the listen that seals the deal for me, I can feel it.

 

Got through my first listen of this (in fits and starts) and it was pretty good but nothing mind blowing. Standout tracks on first listen were:

Toys
True Ugly
Love Protocol
The Gutter
Old Flames

 

Also, True Ugly makes me want a Coheed hardcore album. No songs longer than 3 minutes, and they just let shit rip within those shorter structures.

Toys, Dark Sentencer, Old Flames were my tops but this thing is a mf poundcake of an album, too dense to get on first listen.

 

True Ugly, though! And I think I had listened to The Gutter once before, but I didn't really remember it.

 

True Ugly's energy is awesome, and I love the "everybody down on the GROUND NOW" part, but on an album full of soaring choruses that one falls a little flat for me.

this rips. seriously impressed.

 

I'm really enjoying this on first listen, I just wish it was much shorter.

Right now I think my favorites are Toys, Love Protocol and The Pavilion

 

yeah the only thing that sucks about this is the length

 

We aren't really talking about The Pavilion. People are comparing it to TCBTS, but if all the songs on TCBTS were of that quality I would like that album 100x more.

 

This album is amazing

 

Yeah this could stand to be shorter but I’m not really sure what I’d cut

 

It's a prog band. 80 minute albums is what they do lol

 

Yeah in theory this could be 50-60 minutes, but I have no idea what I’d cut.

 

Coheed is one of maybe three bands that this length works for for me though

 

The length is one of the reasons Descension is my fav.

 

I was expecting to be all Twenty One Pilots yesterday but this album really stole the show. Best Coheed album in forever.

 

"queen of the dark" is fucking awesome

 

that was the one song I disliked, haha.
