I'm not going to listen until I know the whole story, and I'm definitely not going to purchase the album. But those statements by those couple of people are just really confusing and muddying the water as opposed to letting us know any goings on that we aren't privy to.

 

no, and that's super frustrating. I do agree that people are going about this the wrong way. But that could potentially be because they can't say anything more concrete either at the wishes of the victim or for legality's sake. I just think the general attitude and comments are more of a "hint" that something more insidious happened.

Idk, that's a jump and some people might not make that jump and it's okay to not and to listen to the music. I'm just definitely paying close attention to the way people within the scene are reacting to this/reacted to it when the news first dropped.

 

Ya, that's where I'm at. It could be nothing. It could be people who just don't like the band spouting off. I just think proceeding with caution is the best route. If other people don't, it's all good.

 

Interesting that no one involved in Pinegrove has put anything on social media about this.

 

The album was pretty cool, idk I wasn't completely sold on Intrepid and this followed along those lines. I think if I listen more I'll like it, but I don't think it matches to Cardinal, and it's also hard to say how much all of the stuff around it impacted my enjoyment of it. I'll definitely give it some more plays.

I've said all I can say on the rest of this, so I'm out of that convo unless more info comes to light. This is such a weird situation.

I just keep going back to CK. We had a discussion about it in the Accountability thread before it explicitly broke and a lot of people were kinda like "yeah well what else can we do with such gossip? I/m going to still support him until more concrete details come out!" And then concrete details came out and it was a goddamn mess. In the time period between the allegations and him being exposed, he was part of so much shit. That could've been squashed if people had been cautious the first time.

I can't go back and find the tweets because it was November, I just remember getting a vibe from a lot of people that this was one of those "open secret" things. Like people coming forward and talking about Evan being weird towards them or a friend. It was one of the Orchid Tapes people that I remember explicitly recounting an interaction.

And again, that's gossip and that's hearsay and I can't even find the tweets to back up my memory and could be wrong, but that idea stuck with me this entire time. Idkkkk this is very confusing.

 

Darkness fucking wrecks me so hard.

 

I don't feel comfortable in the current circumstances even grabbing it from their bandcamp even if it's free.

 

Same, I don’t want to contribute a “number” or get it trending on bandcamp, at least this first day or so.

Edit: I should say I’m absolutely not trying to shame anyone who does. I’m glad people seem to be enjoying it for the most part.

I think so too. Cardinal took forever to click with me. I listened to it when it came out in... February? then it really didn't click with me until I randomly put it on in the summer.

 

This is the feeling I get with a lot of these people. Somehow they enjoy "being in the know". It doesn't make me feel right.

I don't think its up to people in the know, and the "know" could just be rumors for all we know. If there are other instances, the victims in the situation are at peace with it however they want, it really doesn't matter in the end.

Agreed, I’m just getting the vibe that maybe they arent a peace and just want it to be over.

 

I want to make it clear that my post was not intended to indicate that I’m disregarding the tweets entirely, nor am I trying to perpetuate or co-opt language used to dismiss victims.

Essentially, I just am critical of the way men inject themselves into these discussions, and their motivations thereof. I just see an element of toxic masculinity in the kinds of tactics being deployed by the men in the scene, which I believe to be a different thing than tone policing entirely. I witness uncomfortable behavior from men who “mean well” and/or “are technically on the right side” or whatever that I’m skeptical of. Sometimes, when I’m more cynical, I feel like it’s men trying to control narratives, regardless of their actual level of involvement. From my, admittedly minor, experience in the music scene, I’ve also noticed that sometimes the loudest/angriest voices in the room are ones who have things to hide themselves. There’s also the element of capital; be it social or financial, I apply a very critical lens to anyone who holds or stands to gain either from a given situation.

And I want to clarify that this includes Evan as well. I do not consider him completely “off-the-hook” and do not want to portray as such. I am, however, invested in seeing how this may play out long term as an example of how to move forward with those who do harm. I am very much a believer in holding people accountable, but I have also grown very weary of so-called “cancellation” politics.

 

And if it does come out that these people are only doing it for social clout and dont care about the victim, fuck them and boycott their band/writing etc.

 

Does Nandi being okay with this ease anyone, or is it just too personal of a situation for her to see objectively?

 

Honestly, not even a little bit personally. Recognize this is probably a minority opinion though

Tried listening to the album a little while ago and I couldn't quite do it. Something still off about the whole thing to me, and I have no idea what it is. All my thoughts have been articulated at length in this thread much better than I could ever attempt to

 

Imo the twitter rumor mill is disrespectful to what we know of the privacy the victim has requested / the fact that Jenn of p4k confirmed with the mediator that the band did what she had asked.

The “i know something!” Posts are childish and non-productive. Say something, or don’t. But this whole situation was brought to the public eye due to someone deciding they would get the public involved AGAINST the wishes of the victim.
