I know what the article said. I’m saying that’s not particularly compelling when she actively is choosing not to comment in the article, especially since the article is basically just PR for the record

extremely reductive to say the article is just PR for the record. it partially is sure (which i dont care about) but its honestly a massive slap in the face to jenn pelly to say thats all it is

Not trying to get any hate or hurt anyone, just trying to understand:

What does "pressuring them into having sex verbally and contextually" mean? Are they saying that Evan used his platform in a "If you liked me you would (blank)" type of way?

Again just trying to understand and I really apologize if this question offends or upsets anyone. That is the last thing I want to happen.

yea, if she has a mediator that speaks for her that's enough for me.. why would we need to hear it from the victim themselves when they've already been through enough with this, I want them to be able to move on and not have this hanging over their heads any longer.

I mean, my point is that I don’t think the article accurately conveys what her position is, and considering that other people are on the record saying the article didn’t accurately convey their position I don’t think this is unfair

I think the person from Adult Mom said “It was not communicated clearly by myself” not that the article misrepresented her. Which is a little different, but important to your statement of reliability/accuracy. So maybe the victim did say these things, is it 100% what she meant? We don’t know, but all we have is that that sentiment was relayed through the mediator.

I mean, that sounds like a person hedging to not say they were taken out of context to me but what do I know

All I’m trying to say is that this article doesn’t give me a compelling reason to support Evan. It felt weird and gross to my reading and I still feel as though the victim’s desires aren’t being accurately represented. That said, that is my personal opinion and others are welcome to disagree

Honest question for those feeling unsatisfied with the way Evan has handled this: what does he / what could he do to make things right. Or can anything be done in your eyes?

Yeah, I get that. I was just pointing out where my thought shifted on that too. It’s frustrating as a bystander, but 100% completely understandable that the victim never released a statement. Most of us are trying to read between lines to discover intent. So everyone has to draw their line and so I don’t blame anyone who decides they’re out on the band.

I had asked the question regarding previous abusers and the response typically is, 'they had power, they abused the power, they shouldn't be allowed to be placed in a position of power again'

Yeah, and to be clear, i don’t blame anyone who doesn’t come to the same conclusion as me. But I do want my thought process to be made clear enough that others can at least follow it

we're all a bunch of weirdos on a quest to belong Prestigious

I feel uncomfortable with the way this article is being treated. It barely mentions the new album, an album which all proceeds are going to charity. The way the writer is being made to look like someone who is just “fangirling” out is pretty awful IMO. Jenn is a great writer and journalist and it looks to me like she put a lot of hard work into this article. Reducing it to “PR for the album” is kinda gross TBH

Sorry but the speed with which the article goes from “hey this guy abused someone, but look at the books he reads!” to “also he has a new album out this week” is dizzying. The article literally started a year ago as PR for the album. It feels just as bad to me as Turnover announcing that they kicked out a shitty member while also announcing their new album coming out

I’m not diminishing Jenn to be some sort of fan girl. I think she’s a good writer and I think there are pieces of a good article in here. I initially walked away from it feeling pretty warm, but as I listened to other people speak on it I started to see through it a little bit

I can see I’m significantly in the minority here though, so I’m gonna dip out

I don't get how people can say that this article was strictly for the purpose of PR for a record no one knew was releasing this friday till this morning..

Based on the information that's available to me, I believe that the band has the victim's approval, and I, personally, am more than willing to forgive someone who has remorse for their mistakes enough to let them back into my life.

    Bring on the record.

You just gotta stick to your guns. I think it's already been best explained as "everyone has to draw their own line somewhere."

yeah I love a lot of Jenn's work and people reducing her to fangirling is shitty, but this is kinda where I'm at with the whole thing. I have some issues with this piece and i'm in no way ready to just be cool with this band/Evan again

It is worth noting: all proceeds from bandcamp are going to charity. I have no idea what other release plans there are (will it hit streaming? will there be physical copies?) But if there are other things like that, I don't think anyone should assume the proceeds are going to charity. Just want everyone to be able to make informed decisions about how they choose to (or not to) support this.
