I know I keep shitting on Joba but I really wish he didn't come in over the breakdown on Weight

 

Wow, who would've thought that the website that published that Frightened Rabbit bullshit would go on to question lyrics about mental health and suicide again, this time within a genre that constantly stigmatizes those specific things!

Calling Ameer the best rapper in the group is dumb as fuck too, even if you genuinely feel that way. Why give someone like that credit in the review of an album they weren't even a part of

 

yeah, i'm biased because i think this album is special and that p4k will eventually backpedal on it, but this really isn't a good review.

 

i know reviews don't equate to scores a lot of the time (especially p4k); but the fact the review basically said Weight was the only standout song on here and shitted on essentially all the other songs.... give it a 6.6 tho

 

Dom is easily the best rapper in the group

 

Easily the best or at the very least most consistent, Joba still has the best verse on the whole album with J'OUVERT though

 

it is still weird seeing people say saturation trilogy was actual albums while iridescene isn't

 

saying saturation is a compilation is more fun to say anyway

 

Honey is definitely my favorite next to New Orleans

 

“And maybe it means nothing but I have to say I think about you often” is one of my favorite lines on the album. More of this JOBA please.

this is pitchfork we're talking about here, they continuously have shown they have no problems undermining the mental health issues of the artists they write about

 

I find it very bizarre that P4K had no problem anointing Lil Peep as the next big thing when his lyrics were very much "faux-sad boy-deepness" by the metrics of this current reviewer. Not saying that I think that of course. The double-standards are just bizarre though. Any time a trap rapper mentions something sad as an offhand remark in a song mostly about flexing, it's treated as emotional complexity but Dom can't use a damn metaphor without being called fake. Joba's line about suicide ideation is treated like some limp cliche.

The "faux sadboy deepness" line is a pretty glaring example of the review needing a better editor too. "Sadboy faux-deepness" would have been a better choice as it conveys his opinion that the lyrics lack depth without fully stating that the emotions are fake. Not much effort was put into this review. The opening paragraph about Ameer feels like it was copy pasted from every article about the group since the allegations came up.

that’s this writers third review for pitchfork. the company must really be hurting if they’re giving big name reviews to brand new writers

 

Didn't pitchfork also give ye a 7 despite the review being written like it was well under that score


So yea, pitchfork is kinda wonky

 

Dom handled it pretty well. Fuck that writer still though.

 

I've seen them twice and both times they've started a "fuck Pitchfork" chant, I can't imagine that will change with this tour now
