It feels like after episode IX they will be at least a two-year gap between movies while they focus on the live action show. Then I'm guessing we'll get the first GoT movie 2021 with Rian's coming out 2022.

I would not bet on any trailers or footage until SWC’19 but i would bet we know the title before the end of this year.

I’m fine with not getting a teaser until Star Wars day next year. I aiming to go into this film with as little info as possible.

having something in front of Capt Marvel would seem like a smart play but i think the first trailer will debut ahead of A4, which is just a few weeks after SWC.

Disney will definitely attach the teaser to A4. Even though SW is a big name, having it in front of what could be another $2 billion film is a guarantee.

My ideal teaser would be a single shot of Rey with her new lightsaber. That’s all I need.

They couuuuld do another Black Friday tease, if anything, but if not, celebration.

The hard part is going to be avoiding images and Youtube titles/thumbnails, especially if it does show Rey with her new lightsaber or new look of the characters

This is the last of the Skywalker saga, I’m going to soak it all in. SW teasers and trailers are pretty great about cluing you in without giving that much away. The VF spread is always amazing.
Evidently they are thinking about having Force Friday in August of next year instead of the usual September. There was talk previously that Sept was too early in relation to the movie release date so that’s kinda interesting. Will be very curious to see how the marketing will shake out.

I’m wayy too excited for a movie that is 15 months away. Thank the Force that there are like a gazillion big name movies coming out next year to pacify me until then.

I haven't thought about going in blind, but that's an intriguing idea for this last film.

It’s definitely a challenge, but it’s totally worth it in my opinion.

    1. You get to see those images first time in context of the movie, like Snoke entering Reys mind and screaming. That blew my mind in the theater and Kylo almost pulling the trigger on Leia. It seems kind of trivial, but all those little moments add up and enhance your overall experience that first glorious watch on oepneing night.
    2. I can definitely see how people can have false expectations from trailers based on tone. TLJ trailer is extremely dramatic/dark, so some people go in expecting that for 3 months, and then its like half that but also the most comedy weve seen in a SW movie ever, which probably clashed with a lot of people.
    3. Also since Im weird I treat it as a mental challenge. Sort of a Jedi trial and when you get to finally see it it feels like a reward you've earned.

I definitely agree with the second part. Most of the unsatisfied fan theories developed after the trailers were released. Everyone tries to put the clips together in their head and it forms their own preferred storyline.

    If there’s any
Though I really enjoy TLJ, I’m still annoyed at how off the tone of the trailer was. It built everyone’s expectations up to expect a typical dark Rian Johnson movie, when we only got a couple scenes of that.

I stopped watching any TLJ promo stuff after the first trailer. I'm not sure if it made the experience better for me or not but when you think about it, what's to be gained from watching a trailer for something I already know I'm going to watch? I don't know if I'll be able to but I'm going to try not to watch any trailers for IX before I see it. Especially because I have no idea where the story is going after XIII I think it'll be a really interesting experience.

I don't think watching the trailers or promos took any enjoyment or surprise out of either film, because we know damn well by now that they're not putting legitimate spoilers in promo material, I definitely do not think i'll have the discipline to avoid it all, so i am just psyched to get back into the rollout period when we actually know more.

    So assuming that this weekend...

Is it weird that I enjoy seeing bits of information and clues dropped in promotional materials? Making guesses and putting together evidence is half of the fun for me. Every once in a while (less with Star Wars, more with more mediocre films) the marketing will ruin key elements of a film, but when it comes to Star Wars I love participating in the trailer breakdowns and predictions that always come with each new release. Making guesses and seeing if I am correct builds up the anticipation for me.

Yea, maybe one day I'll go into a Star Wars movie completely blind, but theorizing (as long as you are okay with being wrong on those theories) is a big part of the fun for me.

I'm getting really tired of hype cycles so it's a bit easier for me to ignore all the speculation and promo stuff. Why am I on this thread then, you ask? That's... an excellent question actually

I honestly think my enjoyment of TLJ was amplified by having to miss opening night & reading about the movie beforehand. It allowed me to not get distracted by expectations vs that infamous subverting of said expectations. I got to focus on the HOW and WHY of the story instead of dwelling on the WHAT.

To those who wanna avoid every teaser, promo, & slight hint of what happens, cool. Could be a fun approach. You do you, etc. I will say, off the bat, over a year in advance... If that's your desire, JUST UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THE THREAD NOW AND DON'T RETURN UNTIL YOU SEE THE FILM, lol. There are other Star Wars threads. Don't try to have it both ways. If you don't even want trailers, why not actually commit?
