  1. Wow, I really enjoyed Grave Encounters! I tend to enjoy found footage stuff because it's relatively easy to digest, but I was a litte worried this one would feel like a bunch of similar movies I've seen (that probably came after it tbh). But even with its flaws, it truly creeped me out, and the Ghost Adventures parody stuff was SO funny and on-point. Also didn't realize it tried several things before other movies I enjoyed, like the distorted timeframe (Blair Witch) and the arms coming out of the walls (VHS). Definitely recommend this one to anyone who might've held off for similar reasons.

I remember watching Grave Encouters after the Paranormal Activity-ERA films were out and it was a refreshing take on the genre. The 2nd one however, not so much.

watched Emelie this morning on a slight whim after hearing some good things about it by like 5 people randomly over the last day and a half.

very intriguing and nice to see some originality in the genre. can't say i've ever seen a plot such as that. not much in the way of violence / gore, definitely more psychological horror with a fantastic lead and a subject matter that could be quite brutal for some, such as parents or those who work with / really love children.

there is a scene that is a little too Home Alone for my tastes, but other than that i didn't have any major issues with it. well done.

i love when i watch Grave Encounters with someone who hasn't seen it before because it starts and they're like, "this is campy as fuck" and then they quickly realize that's the point because it's poking fun at ghost tv shows. and then when the time traveling or whatever starts happening it's like WHOA that's pretty cool and then when they bust open the doors and see it's just another hallway and not the exit they're totally sucked in and 100% invested.

i've seen it like 5-6 times and still enjoy the shit out of it. sequel not so much. only watched once and can't imagine ever going back to it unless someone else really wants to watch it.

I watched Hell House LLC 2 and I'm not sold, mostly because I still don't think the first one needed a sequel. Come to think of it if Grave Encounters 2 hadn't already existed by the time I checked out Grave Encounters (which I love) I probably would have felt the same way.

Evil Dead (2013) is finally getting an unrated cut in October! Five additional minutes! I can’t wait. I loved that movie. Such a fun gorefest.

Edit: my bad, it’s getting a blu ray release. The unrated is already available digitally. Guess I’ll have to go back and watch that!

if you ever have the chance, go with Con Air first. supporting cast includes john malkovich and ving rhames!

I always found Cage’s “southern” accent jarring in Con Air. Takes me out of it.

I'm watching Poltergeist for only the second time. It's... kinda poorly paced? It's good but there's a big chunk of it where nothing happens

Really cool that it's a family friendly movie that's actually scary though. Effects are really good

Also, it’s widely accepted that Spielberg directed the movie (despite some weird rule where the DGA said he couldn’t direct two movies in 1982, the other being E.T.) So Tobe Hooper was relegated as site coordinator but credited as director.
