When I saw them last year they closed with Soco and let me tell you it gave me the same exact feeling.
I was in an arena though and just that moment gave me goosebumps.

They finished with that for mine too last year in June on that intimate tour. Jesse stood there singing 'you're just jealous cos we're young in and in love' for like five minutes after the rest of the band had left haha.

I'm just saying, I will believe it's the end when it happens. But I agree with a lot of what you're saying - it does make it hard to "like" them. I enjoy their music but I think the way they handle the band is complete bullshit and leaves a lot of fans wanting more and left empty handed. Yet, they don't owe anybody anything, and are completely in their right to do whatever they want.

How does a band calling it quits, yet giving their fans a last chance to see them before they hang it up bullshit? Most bands just quit and thats it...you don't get to see them again. The use guys care enough to give you w chance to check them out one last time... That's pretty cool.

Honestly the way they handle this band isn't bull shit at all. Before everyone became obsessed with knowing what everyone is doing 24-7 the way they handle the band would be a non issue. Damn I'm tired of "fans" acting like them giving notice of their breakup is a shitty thing to do

I know they did two nights there but I was at this show I think, and it was easily one of the absolute best times I've seen them.

Preacccchhhh. If they just suddenly broke up they'd be up-in-arms yelling 'TYPICAL! They would do this!' kinda thing. I'm immensely grateful to know ahead of time - motivates me more to see them as much as I can, and not to expect much more from them once their album is through with.

I get the sense that the UK shows are always special to them. Some of my favorite YouTube videos are from those sets.

Like the Soco love some people are giving? This is one of those videos that gives me chills every time despite not having been at the show:

There's something perfect about Jesse performing that on Valentine's day, the crowd's participation, and the choice of lighting as the song begins to crescendo.

Do or do not, there is no try.

I was at that show in Glasgow, atmosphere was incredible. Possibly my favourite Brand New show - seeing them perform Dejà in Edinburgh last year was pretty close though!

Yeah I have to say I would never have been begging to see Deja in full live, but when they did it in Sheffield and I'd travelled all that way to see them, and didn't know it was happening, even until like half way through the set I thought they might change it up, it was one of the most mind blowing live shows I've ever seen.

You are misunderstanding me. If they are truly breaking up, then I agree, it's great that they are doing this. But I remember after Daisy was released (maybe you will too) that they said that was it and they were never gonna release another album. Granted, this was 6 years ago and I understand things change.

But if this is just another stunt, then its completely bullshit. The whole lyric book $1 thing. that was bullshit. You cannot tell me that keeping everyones money and not giving them anything for years was "pretty cool". I also remember when Daisy was going to be released, AP was going to release the official title as a sort of exclusive, then the day before Jesse said at a show that it was going to be called And one head can never die. I didn't think that that's "pretty cool" to do to Jason, even if Jesse was just playing around (and if he was playing around, why even do that if you were going to have the real title released the next day?). I don't know, things like that always rub me wrong.

I do agree that you don't need to let everyone know 24/7 what is going on with your band, but the way they string fans along just annoys me.

This was a relatively pleasant place when I joined!
I just remembered about the Nightmare vinyl and I'm still thinking album deets will be shipped in the sleeve! Providing there's none by late June/July when they're shipped. Which I would find painful but still.

About Daisy being their last album, they seemed to be more uncertain about what the future held for music releases at large rather than not being sure they'd ever release more music. The music industry was still reeling from the decrease in music sales, especially physical album sales. At least I took it more to mean that the way they released music in the future might be different. I didn't get the impression that they were done releasing music for good.

(Sidenote: You could argue that they've been on the verge of breaking up since 2004. The fact we'll have gotten 4 more when all is said and done since that time is better than the alternative.)

As for the lyrics books and dollar fiasco, I never understood why some fans got so bent out of shape about it. I mean, it was only a buck (plus minimal shipping cost) that they were out. The joke became stale after the first year. The fact that they delivered on their promise at all and in the fashion they did when they did was completely unexpected. If I had received one of those I would hold onto it since they put much more effort into them than the upfront cost and again, what was expected. I was actually disappointed that I didn't receive one since I sent in a dollar, but it's whatever now.

The album title debacle may have been more of a misunderstanding than anything. Jason and AP.net still got the exclusive when the official title was revealed shortly thereafter.

I can see where some (casual) fans might see the moves this band makes to be perplexing, but there hasn't been a time where I've felt they've been dicks to their fans in all the years I've followed them. They just pick their spots and maximize on those opportunities, and have ever since the post-Deja era. They're just chronic procrastinators and perfectionists who value quality over quantity, at least from what I can tell.

That's what I'm thinking as well. Would be ripe timing to say an album is officially coming at a specific time. Or at least the name of the album. Something.

At this point I hope when Brand New comes to Dallas they do a Rage Against The Machine-style silent protest show just so I can see what people would do

Shucks, guys, I'm not trying to have an argument here. To each their own thoughts, I was just pointing out what it seems like to me. And personally, I hope it is all just a ruse so we have more music/shows to look forward to for a long time to come.

No worries man, I'm not trying to argue either. It's more the news thread about them mentioning the 2018 stuff the other day that has me mostly annoyed

Right, I feel like they've pinned themselves into a corner by stating an end date. While it would be nice to know that's it, if they end up feeling differently and wanting to continue as a band, that ends up being a shitty marketing ploy.

Edit: I should clarify, I have every reason to believe they'll hang it up after 2018. They've followed through on all other promises (save for a packaged vinyl deal). But, I can see how if they don't it'd rub some people the wrong way.

I mean the comments happening in that thread accusing them of being shitty are what I'm referring to. I'm not that worried about them not actually hanging it up. I doubt it's a marketing ploy

Seriously, so jealous you see mewithoutYou so much. gosh, i want to see them again so bad. i really hope they come back to Canada.
This video was sweet (and obviously im biased), but the one i saw the other night was waaaay more intense just because Jesse's guitar was screaming with distortion when he was all alone singing that part he was like belting out those lyrics. it was incredible. but yeah, that video is still so rad.
