Well it's already got a huge leg up in terms of trees and foliage. South of Jax it's basically just pine trees and palm trees. And fake sod grass because the soil is too shitty for real grass. Here people have giant Oak trees with moss growing on it and like mini jungles in their backyard.

It also has an excellent combination of river docks, lakes, marshes and beaches, you get all the different kinds of water activity in one place whether you're more into boating and fishing, or those giant fan boats on swamp water, or racing jetskis through winding creeks, or snorkeling in cold springs, or like surfing and scuba diving at the beach. It's all here. Being on the water around Jax when my family had a boat really showed how much variety and different spots to explore this area has in that way.

There are 6 bridges downtown that can be seen from one place and they are all different colors and shapes. Like literally a red one, a blue one, a green one, a brown one, a purple one, etc. Looks amazing at night. Downtown is colorful and there's four different sections of skyline all separated by water so there's a view from all sides.

In general Florida is flat and doesn't give you many of those sought after overhead views. But all the main highways here are elevated, and between that and the bridges it ends up giving you a lot of scenic drives.

Jax is muy guapo my dude.

I've been to 3 of those places. Gorgeous but not a lot of variety. Once you've seen it you've seen it, might as well go on a cruise to the Caribbean. Destin is great but ridiculously crowded during all vacation periods, who wants to swim in hot water around sweaty people who are pissing 12 inches from them?

St Augustine shares some things with Jax, it's only 45 minutes away and the next meaningful town south of here. The beaches between Jax and St Augustine (Matanazas reserve, which by postal code is in South Ponte Vedra) are excellent and just as untouched and clear water as any I've been to.

Also note that I'm literally just arguing just to argue and get other people to say more than like a sentence hahah. But idk, I feel like if Jacksonville was big and really culturally developed like Tampa or Miami people would love it. It's pretty underrated in a lot of ways there's just not much opportunity here and it doesnt have like a thriving city core yet (it's starting to get there.)

Only been to the surrounding area. My band's old bassist went to California college of PA which is... pretty far still haha but I guess still considered Pitt metro area. I don't know much about the city but I do know that driving across the Appalachian mountains from Maryland is an amazing drive. There's one mountain on route 40 in Uniontown that has a spiraling road around it, it has giant red blinking signs "DANGEROUS MOUNTAIN AHEAD" and every truck has to stop and check it's brakes before descending, and you can just see like 30 southwest PA towns from the top of it.

Edit: this is the scenic overlook on that road. I've seen this about 4 or 5 times while heading to the bassist's house during the college year to record music: http://pix.mdmpix.com/680/2015/2015-10-22_010/Uniontown-Skyline-PA.jpg

I also got caught in a nasty blizzard once driving back though and had to have hicks tow my car and take me to a shitty hotel in nowhere so it has also sucked

Yeah. If you're from California,PA, you probably would still say your from Pittsburgh, even though it's two counties away. I live in the city and oh 3 miles from downtown where I work. Pittsburgh is pretty small so it doesn't feel like a city a lot of the time, but it has all of the big city amenities.

The Landing is pretty worthless unless there's an event going on and then it's like night and day. They set up a stage and have a concert right on the water at least once a week. It shocks me how many people suddenly come out of the woodwork in a normally quiet urban area for events like Artwalk, which is a monthly music and art display that covers 10 city blocks, and has live music in several venues and outdoor stages (including the Landing).

I think they just have had a hard time creating a community of consistent nightlife downtown because most of the cool drinking spots are near but not in downtown. But I'm not sure it's any more run down than a lot of northeast cities I've been to. Most of the surrounding area is quite nice and well maintained. North of downtown is an old, poor neighborhood though and I can see how some of the more dead city blocks when downtown isn't busy can give you that impression. It still needs work in terms of revitalizing the downtown core because most of the weekly business goes to Riverside and San Marco, neighborhoods adjacent to but not in downtown.

  15. I live in the burbs outside of Philly in New Jersey. It's a whatever kind of place.

My favorite cities are Pittsburgh and Toronto.

  16. My dad lives in St Johns and every time I've visited I was never overly impressed with Jax. The beaches are less crowded and the rivers are nice. But not a placed I'd move to.

Living downtown is the best. Living in downtown Baltimore was pretty excellent and I'd probably still be there if I didn't have to scrape paycheck to paycheck to afford the rent haha. I used to walk to work, and then walk across the street to bars or down the street to the baseball stadium when I got off work.

I'll have to visit sometime. I tend to like smaller cities just because of the character and the fact you don't have to deal with crowds as often. I do image it's beautiful with the mountains all around and the 3 rivers.

I can't complain too much, I really just want a decent record store. I live outside of most of the popular areas but I wouldn't mind moving even further.

also if the city wasn't incredibly overcrowded and the homeless population dropped that would be nice. Glad I don't go to the city as much these days.

That's fair. Myself and a roommate pay 1050 a month for a 1300 square foot house with a deck and a wooded yard, 5-10 minutes from all the cool spots, so money played a huge part in me being inspired to move here haha. All my music equipment is in my living room, which I was never able to do in an apartment. I don't work a professional job, still need to finish college for that, so it was about coming to a place where I can still have nice things, can afford a house so I can practice/record music at home, and can afford to go out without working extra shifts.

I knew I had old friends here and would love following the football team without having to buy Sunday Ticket. But I did not know the beer and music and art scenes would be on a rapid incline, so that's been a very pleasant surprise. There's like 7 breweries and 5 music venues that have opened in the last 5 years.

Some of the best bars I've ever been to, period, are here (it still weirds me out) and all of them have so many taps. Usually in the northeast bars I went to had 10-20 different beers on tap - here some of them have 40 or 50. One of my favorite bars is a gastropub that has 178 different rotating craft beers and I try something new every time.

I dont. The main downside of this place is ITS TOO HOT. 90-95 degrees and humid all summer. You only get a breezy break from that heat for a couple hours when it rains. Fall and spring are on point though

It was 94 yesterday and I refused to go outside and melt. Thank god I put A/C in my house when we had it built a few years back.

I'm kinda like a Northwest Bat. Just hang upside down in my house in my 68-70 A/C home.
