me too. i say that as someone that doesn’t live in chicago, as - from what i see - it’s typically people that live in chicago that dislike the location of douglas park.

the area might not be best, but the layout of it is is really good IMO.

Only reason I'd like it to come back to Humboldt is because I live walking distance from there haha. I definitely dig the layout at Douglas much better

    Chicagoan here.

Douglas >> Humboldt despite Humboldt being way closer to where I live. Layout is infinitely better.

I was a little worried with how the actual three days would go considering the road to get there was....not great, but they pulled it off and thats a feat. definitely should use better or more effective communication and PR in the future but I don't thinK I'd worry about the fest being around as a whole in the future, it should be fine.

As long as they don't do it in Tinley Park like Warped i'll be happy.

The only thing that would prevent me from going back next year is just the sheer exhaustion of it all, but that’s not a Riot Fest complaint. If anything, it’s a compliment because they had my ass running all over the place.

I don't think that would ever happen.

One day was enough for me this year

Tinley Park wold suck and attendance would drop in half or more, easily.

Now, just based on location, size, and layout:

Would you all be okay if (keyword here) Riot were held at Grant Park? I know I would.

  10. Tinley is fine for a one day thing like Warped, but I’d hate driving down there multiple days in a row. I’d personally be fine with Grant Park, but I just don’t see it happening.

what are the odds that Grant Park is okay with having Riot so soon after Lolla?

Would having them very close together in the same park violate any type of contract? Like there’s differences but I feel like it mess with crowd overlap too much and prices would have to go up to cover getting the park for those days

It should just be 15 days long at the renovated congress theater

  14. It would be easy to get to, at least.

I don’t see why it would. Lolla/C3 only contractually has “ownership” of the park for like 10 days in late July/early August. Are prices for a fact cheaper for Riot because of it being at Douglas Park? Pitchfork’s tickets are equivalent to Riot’s and that’s in a smaller park than Riot. I think it’s possible.

Riot Fest at Grant Park would lose a lot of it's charm for me. Douglas Park may be kind of a hassle to get to, but it easily leads to my favorite festival vibe at a major Chicago fest. I love how much open space there is, how it feels actually green, how the stages are pretty close together so you can actually get from one to another within a couple minutes. Grant Park doesn't have the open area that Douglas (or Humboldt) does. It works for Lolla because they need way bigger spaces for each stage, but at Riot you'd really notice the distance between stages, or they'd be placed in terrible spots. I'll take the small hassle getting to Douglas personally.

If it ever went to Tinley i would never step foot in Riot again.

Leave it be, its too big for Union, Humboldt was awful layout and Grant Park I can't see the city allowing that to happen. It takes such a beating from Lolla.

I have fun once I'm at Tinley but it is kind of a pain in the ass to get to. I still think people are dramatic about how terrible it is, but if you don't have a car then yea it'd be god awful.

I was talking to one of my friends who did press for Lolla and press for Riot this year, and she expressed how far away everything is at Lolla.

I think Douglas is a good spot for Riot, and everything be close makes it easy to hop between stages.

Bacci pizza was awful. Underoath was amazing. And what the fuck was up with the field lighting? Couldn’t see crap.

I haven’t scanned previous posts yet.

Agreed with both your statements. The pizza was one big "meh" and props to other festivals like Lollapaloza and Pitchfork for getting the food right. Also, on the subject, I have been to Lollapalooza before (last went in 2017) and the lighting was pretty good there, plus when you exited Grant Park streetlights were still on and there were a crap ton of people with their phones and stuff so there was decent lighting. I was literally nearly falling over people at Riot, and not only did it made finding my friend way harder at night, it made me finding the exit harder too. The least they could do is put in some big overhead lights.

And dear god they need a closer entrance/exit to California. That walk is exhausting in and of itself lol

Anyone have any of that homemade ice cream? I sat on the lawn while listening to Fear and it was a lovely experience.
