If you don't listen to their lyrics the songs are pretty good.

 

Scar Tissue and Soul to Squeeze will always be jams, but other than that I don't get the RHCP hype.

 

Iron Maiden are terrible and that last album of theirs is one of the most boring things I have ever listened to.

 

They are definitely an acquired taste but their debut album is a classic. But after that, I agree, that the majority of their songs are not great.

 

I have had this conversation so many times and am so here for the opinion that RHCP are maybe the most overrated band of all time.

 

I'm just totally not here for the vocals and very gallopy songs. It just seems like dad-rock for people who go LARPing aha. I guess it just isn't for me.

The two songs I will concede to being good at The Trooper and Can I Play With Madness.

My opinion on them generally, or their last album? I stand by both but the first one is obviously going to be something most people who likes metallic music will disagree with.

 

Generally. Their last album isn't particularly great compared to their discography, but to reduce them to dad-rock for people who go LARPing is a bit disingenuous, IMO, considering the people I know from all walks of life who listen to them. They're arguably one of the most influential bands of all time in heavy music, and a majority of the music I listen to owes their sound to their work.

Ultimately, it just boils down to subjectiveness, and I respect the boldness. Those kind of posts are what this thread is for.

 

I don't think they're terrible but they have the most awkward transitions ever.

Edit: To clarify: I mean their tempo changes.

 

I can see how the casual listener could be turned off by them but you can't deny their influence on heavy metal.

 

Oh it was total hyperbole but like you said, it's what the thread it for haha. They just aren't for me but I respect their influence.

I hate everything about Brian Fallon and the gaslight anthem. Nostalgic white boy music is bad.

Country music as a whole is garbage. All of it.

Nirvana bores me to tears.

I do not have to respect or acknowledge the influence of any single artist, because I guarantee that any genre would have had a similar trajectory with or without any given single artist. So yeah, fuck iron maiden.

 

Whilst I think boiling down TGA to "nostalgic white boy music" is incredibly simplistic and shows a pretty big lack of understanding of the band, I can completely see how that kind of music has been done to death, and when you are not one yourself I can only imagine how tiring it must be to be hit by an avalanche of such bands.

 

This seems wildly inaccurate and impossible to prove or argue for.

 

To be fair, nostalgic white boy music can probably describes at least majority of the music this site backs hard. From Alkaline Trio to ZZ Top.

Give me a more relevant artist that starts with Z, and I'll edit this. They were the first one to come to mind. @_@
