Jammed it last night for the first time in a while and had a real nice time listening to it I gotta be honest.

Lyrically. Musically they both have cool things going for them, but the lyrics just take me out of them.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

M/M is really bad lyrically and is one of the main reasons I don't go back to it. Musically I find it boring too and it just sounds like a band that lost their energy

M/M has Anthology though, one of their best songs

Words in the Water is one of Dustin’s best lyrical efforts imo

I don't mean this as an insult to anyone's personal beliefs, but born-again baptism imagery is just not something I can deal with.

That is totally out of place on the album.

Yeah, other than In Exile, I did not enjoy the rest of the songs on first listen. At The Last was an acquired taste (that I really enjoy now), but I'm still pretty lukewarm about the rest of the tracks.

I'll try to give beggars another listen and tell you guys what i think. Dunno if I'll like it anymore that I have the last few times but maybe something will finally click for me.

I'm legit surprised that Beggars is not as liked as i thought it was by the fanbase.

From what I've seen, I think Beggars is still a favorite among at least a plurality of the fans.... at least that's the case for the latter of the band's discography. From my POV, I get surprised when people say they clearly rank M/M or TBE ahead of Beggars.

For me it's just the bluesy and stripped down dorection. I can appreciate it but I dont really go for that kind of music.

M/M wasnt much better. I really liked like the first 3 songs and then a couple other here and there. Everything else was just kinda there. The period of Thrice after Fire/Water and before TBE was a rough one for me.

Interesting that people see such a large variance in quality between Thrice albums. In my mind they only have one bad album, and have been on a nine record winning streak ever since.

I always thought Beggars was just loved on this site, but I feel most fans you'd run into at shows are in the Artist/Vheissu camp. It's a hard thing to judge though.

For myself, I'm just into harder music over softer, so Beggars is towards the bottom even though I love it.

It does for sure, esp At the Last. But its still stripped and toned down more than most of their other albums. Just a preference.

They do heavy so well that when Beggars dropped, it took a bit for me to adapt to their an album adapting more of their Earth sound.

We're about to rank stuff again. I can feel it.

I also find it interesting what aspects people compare on diffrent albums.

I would never say Beggars and Earth cover the same sonic territory. But someone who generally listens to heavier music might not see as much difference as I do.

All the Beggars tracks sound amazing live.

At the Last, Great Exchange and Talking Through Glass are the only three I haven't seen live yet, which I would love to. Since they did Wood and Wire last tour, I'd love for them to bust out one of those as a rare one.

I love that it sounds raw without sounding like it was just thrown together willy-nilly. I've never been one to focus on riffs as a make or break aspect of music i listen to. Now what I a sucker for is dynamics. Give me that loud soft and I melt. I think thats where Beggars, and especially the title track(probably my favorite song by Thrice tied with Daedalus) really shine.

But as far as what pulls me into a song; lyrics, an intersting chord progression, and melody have always been more important to me than riffatude.

What happened to the good ol' fanboy days when we all just agreed Thrice is great?
