    LONG POST. DEAL WITH IT.

BEST SHOW I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. EVER. HANDS DOWN, NO QUESTIONS ASKED, END OF DEBATE, SHUT UP.

WOW. This was my 3rd time seeing Brand New, and holy man, it was the best. First ill start by saying Greater Pyrenees was awesome. When i was in seattle earlier this week i actually met a kid from Mississippi who is friends with Shawn, so right before Greater Pyrenees started playing i yelled to shawn and said "hey man i met your friend Will from Mississippi"... he looked at me and initially i think he thought i was just screwing around but then i was like "Will! with long red hair!".... then Shawn yelled into the microphone, "this guy in the front here knows my friend Will! everyone give him an applause!" and he seemed excited about it. i mean its pretty random seeing as i live in Canada. anyway, i got to talk to him after the show and he sold me their LP for 22 dollars when they were charging 25 for it... haha thats all i had. But yeah, they played so tight and Shawn has an UNREAL voice.

MEWITHOUTYOU. Holy SSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHnikes. easily one of the best live acts i have ever seen. This was my first time seeing them, and yeah Aaron is like the most entertaining frontman ever. just such a great band, i really dont know what else to say other than i was seriously blown away with them. Like, i really like mewithoutYou already, but that was just ridiculous.

BRAND NEW. my favorite band ever. So, they opened up with Soco... which i always thought was the dumbest thing ever and i always assumed they were doing it to be funny, using it as an opener. but no guys, i kid you not, that is the best Brand New show opener. i am converted and a believer. it was honestly one of the most special moments ive ever had at a show (i realize im saying a lot of "best evers", realize i live in Canada so when i see live stuff like this, it literally is "the best we've ever seen" because we dont get a ton of acts coming thought here, so shut up and dont call me a fanboy you idiots. just dont. screw you). i shed one single tear during Soco. it was just so cool, Jesse walked out all alone, plugged his guitar in, and started playing it. everyone in that room instantly started singing the words back to him. it was like in that moment everyone in that room became something together. i really cant explain it unless you experience it, but it was a real and tangible change in the room. it was honestly just beautiful. Then at the end of Soco Jesse did some insane improve on vocals.
actually i want to make a comment about Jesse vocals before i forget. So, ive seen Brand New a couple times and have been watching live videos for seriously over 10 years. I think Jesse is a great vocalist, but honestly, sometimes he isnt the best singer ever. which is whatever, obviously it works for the band. but no, i swear he sounded better than ive ever heard him tonight. he was hitting high notes i didnt even know were in his range. And overall, just the whole band, i feel like theyre at height of their tightness in terms of playing as a group. Sometimes i feel like Brand New has a lot of energy in their live show, but can be a tiny bit sloppy at times... just stuff like hitting wrong notes on the guitar while riffing or whatever. but seriously, they sounded better than ever. this band is at the top of their game right now, and i dno, anyone who says this bands setlist is stale because they havnt put out a record in 7 years... i dno what id say to that. "youre wrong" maybe? This band just sounded the best ive heard.
ALSO SCREW SCREW SCRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWW YOU to anyone who thinks You Stole is boring live. GGGOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. During the second verse Jesse sung everything in a higher range and it was just crazy, and the loud parts of You Stole are always nuts live. a highlight even.
They played Quiet things which was cool because they tend to not play that much now at this point.
They closed the show with Limo. man. Im so glad they played that, i hadnt seen Limo live until tonight. it was ridiculous. when it got to the outro, they were just going hard, Vin in classic Vin fashion is stomping around the stage with his guitars headstock miles above his head, Jesse is jumping around like an ape, Garret doesnt give a fuh but its still jamming hard and Brian is hitting his kit like he has a bone to pick with them. one by one, members of the band would walk off the stage and leave during the outro until it was just Jesse. SHOW HIGHLIGHT**** then Jesse for at least 2 minutes, with his guitar on heavy distortion and feedback sang the "We'll never have to buy adjacent plots of earth. We'll never have to rot together underneath dirt. I'll never have to lose my baby in the crowd. I should be laughing right now" part all alone, and just belted it. his vocals were unreal at this part, and it was crazy seeing him sing that part all alone for so long. im pretty sure he improvised some lyrics during this too. it was crazy, ive never seen him do that on any live video. what a way to end the show.
lets see, other things. I Am A Nightmare was fun live even though im mega meh on it studio version.
You Wont Know wrecked the world.

Oh, hahahah, last thing. Nobody in Brand New said anything the whole show, until right before they played Nightmare. Jesse was like "We're Brand New, thanks for coming and have a great night. We will be back soon" and then the crowd went nuts, lol, then Jesse is like "or never"... then they played Nightmare and as they walked off the stage the BRAND NEW 2000 - 2018 thing came on the screen. so troll lol.

Really enjoyed reading this! So SO fucking jealous you got to see Limo live, I'd bloody die. Wanted to hear that live for so long. Hoping somebody recorded it because that outro to it sounds so cool. Man. They need to get back to the UK :'(

They've played Limo quite consistently for a while, I'd imagine if they come back you'll definitely see it.

I've only managed to see them twice, last year and 2012 - both times no :(
But yeah I certainly hope so.

Dunno if it's the exact same way, but someone got crowd recordings of the shows in Vancouver (or wherever the first shows were) the other day and he did a pretty similar thing during Limo there, too. Might be worth checking out, @KennedyBN.

I think this whole "2018 being the end" thing is the most Brand New-ist stunt they have pulled in a long time (well since they changed me a dollar for a lyric book and waited years and years to send them out). Does anyone else smell nonsense there?

I'd say I "wish" for nonsense here, but I think that they are being legit. I also think the 2-year timeline is a generous way to let everyone do what they have to in order to enjoy the band and prepare for the eventual end.

The more I think about it, the more I fall into the camp of supporting them calling it quits. It would be freeing to know that we should not expect/hope for new music or more activity from this band. They make it pretty hard to like them, and even harder to follow them sometimes. I am not saying that they owe me anything, or that they should change their behavior in this way because I do believe they are just acting genuine and true to themselves.

It makes it damn hard to care about a group that puts out releases so sparingly, does practically nothing to update their fanbase, and changes up their live set so little.

When I saw them at ommegang last summer they opened up with soco, and you are right it's seriously an incredible opener, engages fans immediately. They also did the thing at the end of limousine which I thought was incredible. I left that show feeling like it was the best show I had ever been too.. I had Manchester orchestra and Kevin Devine there too so that helped.

I've seen mewithoutyou you too many times to count haha. But they are always great. They are from Philly so they play here like 4 times a year and I usually go to two of them.

@KennedyBN This is one of my favorite renditions of Limousine. It features that end part you're talking about, but I know what you mean about Jesse playing around with those lines at the end.

The best performance I've seen was at the Forest Hills show a couple years ago, which also featured that refrain. There's a bootleg copy of that in the Brand New archive that's worth your time.

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

I mentioned it in the ultimate Brand New playlist thread the other day, but although Soco as an opener is fantastic in and of itself, them playing that straight into Vices was utter chaos and I loved them for doing it. Total calm before the storm, I loved the juxtaposition there and it worked fantastically.

I thought they were onto something during their October 2014 tour. It would quell some of the complaints if they performed sets like this and this more often. Those sets were some of their longest and most varied in a long time, excluding special sets.

Check out Eargasms or Earasers! They're comfortable and filter decibel levels down for a more audibly manageable studio-esque listening experience at shows. You won't ever go without them again after using them once.

In fact now I'm even more sad - I recognised Jesse's outfit and realised that was the same tour I saw them in 2012. I saw them 4 days after and they didn't play Limo. Damn.

That's really unlucky on your part - They played it at the three 2012 dates I went to on that tour.
