Not big on A Branch In The River and Hold Up A Light, they're just not my kind of music. But otherwise really strong album and I love some of the mellow ones on here

  2. A Branch In The River holy shit. This is like Beggars meets The Artist In The Ambulance. Or what was that one Vheissu bside, Lullaby? It reminds me of this song so much, especially the guitar tones.

I wish people wouldn't do too much about the comparisons to post-grunge bands. They're valid and the one that struck me as the most apt has always been Seether. As Dustin aged, his vocals have got that rough tone, and the melodies and some of the inflections are very similar to Shaun Morgan from the aforementioned band.

Hold Up A Light sounds straight from one of the latter's albums (Disclaimer and Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces), especially the grungy chorus.

  4. In high school, I had a wake up alarm with a similar melody to the harp in Blood On Blood.

When the instrument came in, needless to say I felt... triggered.

Jokes aside, this is a nice touch. Glad to see the band still having fun by experimenting two decades into their career.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Blood on Blood is my clear highlight two listens in, wraps up so much of this band's discography in a beautiful little package. Branch and Pines close contenders

I just gave this another spin and I like it a whole lot more now with headphones on. Lots of great instrumentation, the band sounds super tight together on every song. Ed in particular I thought was the standout during my first couple spins, but I think it’s also Teppei. These two are the stars.

My only gripe would be the lyrics. Dustin tends to repeat a line constantly and honestly it sort of kills the vibe for me while the music playing is so great.

The production here is amazing though. Love how bare everything sounds and how you can hear what each person is doing.

My Soul might be the best on the record.

We talk too much / We talk in circles

I've never anticipated a live performance more than Branch's first unveiling. It's gonna be anarchy in SD.

24 hours later, 20 listens in, and it's still a beautiful record.

The harp bridge of Blood on blood is 100% Florence and the machine.

I need to listen a lot more, but first 2 times beyond the pines is the only one that gives me goosebumps. The rest is great but that song is special.

Whenever “Everything Belongs” starts, part of me starts humming “Dying In LA” by Panic! At the Disco lmao

Blood on Blood really does sound like a Circa Survive song and I love it

I love Thrice I really do but seriously this record is just weak. Also not really surprising as they last near perfect record was Vheissu. It's just interesting to browse through these comments and everyone loves it. Wonder what would derail their strong and loving fanbase? This is a cheesy, boring, radiorock record. Come on this band wrote songs like For Miles, Of dust and Nations or To awake and Avenge the Dead....

"I am the patron saint of lost causes"

Somebody insists to the old sounds of some bands, some doesn't mind if a band changes it's sound. I can understand your point, maybe not with Thrice, but I have also some bands, I can't listen to anymore, because how their sound has changed over time.

Nonetheless, this new record is good however I still prefer TBEITBN. But maybe it'll grow on me.

I want bands to change their sound too, TBEITBN was quite good, especially comparing it to this one, but come on this new is not, I've been struggling through the whole time listening to it. It was pretty cringeworthy.

    Prestigious Prestigious

I don't hear this as radiorock.. like outside of the grey I don't think you could throw a lot of these songs on the radio and expect success. theres a ton of experimentation on this album, whether its in the mix or instrument choices, or just how they chose to layer certain parts. The break down with just drums and bass on the rhythm is a huge risk and I think its awesome, may be my favorite part of the album.

I get it we love hearing this band with 100 guitars, but I always wanted another "air" type album from them that was more sparse and focused on groove. I'm personally really excited that this album exists as it is.

Vheissu-era Thrice will always be what I consider their best work, but I think it's okay that their sound has changed over time. If they just kept doing the same thing over and over I doubt they would even be a band anymore. I know a lot of people stopped listening when they moved away from the post-hardcore sound, but change can be a good thing.

I personally think it's a very fun and adventurous record. Perhaps my love for Thrice is blinding me though.
