Pumpkinhead. How is it? Should I watch it?

Pumpkinhead, one the underrated franchises of the 80’s/90’s. They’re a good watch. The practical effects are alright. Acting is moderately bad. Everything you’d expect. I’d say go for it if you don’t have anything else on your queue

Train to Busan is fantastic. I agree that it is a very emotional (excuse the pun) train-wreck of a movie but I was pleasantly surprised by the creativity of it.

Gonna start my horror binge season today. Not sure where to start, but probably gonna browse Netflix for some hidden gems before I move into the "serious business" territory. Still haven't seen any of The Conjuring films somehow so I may go ahead and finally watch those, too.

Outside of movies, I got the Penguin Classics release of Thomas Ligotti's Songs of a Dead Dreamer/Grimscribe yesterday and it's so great.

Has anybody caught The Nun in theaters yet? Worth going, or should I wait to redbox it?

I liked it. It was an easy watch and had a good tie in to the Conjuring Universe. It didn't look as practical as the others but had its creepy moments. As it is with horrors; best to just way and see how you feel about it yourself .

I'm not going into the Nun looking for good horror, I kind of just want to jump back into The Conjuring universe until Conjuring 3.

I mean, I feel like the story telling of the first Conjuring was very well done. The suspense was there, and the feel and tone of the movie felt like real horror winning against an unknowing family. I enjoyed the second one in that it played off the idea that there was doubt and questioning of any of it being real, while building the universe to be bigger. I'd of liked to read that they got a good story and basis for how Valak came to be. But, it seems like i'll be settling for look and tone alone.

Coupled with the poor RT score and the fact a couple of reviewers I trust have slated The Nun I really don't want to bother with it despite initially looking forward to it. Also sad to see that it is doing so well at the box office as there have been far superior horror films that deserve the attention way more.

The Nun was worth watching for me but only because the crowd was really into it. But it was just OK. The little nod to Conjuring at the end was pretty cool but that’s about it.

If we’re going for religion-based recs my contribution will be Seklusyon - Wikipedia. It’s not perfect (some awkward pacing at the end) but I really enjoyed it.

The Nun was incredibly fine. Fun and spooky atmophere, honestly worth a trip to theaters IMO.

EDIT: I should say, “trip to theaters” comes from someone with amc a list, and that this isn’t a movie I’d watch at home.

Watched The Ritual yesterday. I read the book a few years ago and this was relatively faithful, but I'm bummed they changed the content of the twist since the book twist was SO RIDICULOUS.

    Book spoilers -

I really wanted to see the black metal band show up!!
