Ryan needs to stop throwing to Jones so frequently. Half of the time he isn't even open.

 

I mean...he had like 170 yards receiving last night lol. In his defense, no one else was really getting open at all last night.

 

This is what happens when you just let Taylor Gabriel walk.

 

Sark will take most of the blame for that game, but that might be one of Matt Ryan's worst games ever. Give your team absolutely no chance with those redzone throws. Also throwing less to Julio seems like a bad strategy.

 

I understand the last play, by why not try something different ? They've been having these struggles and it just seems like they haven't tried to fix it.

 

That last series was shades of the 49ers/Ravens Super Bowl where Kaepernick and company tried the same shit over and over and kept failing.

How embarrassing.

 

It was their biggest weakness last year, and yet somehow, it's their biggest weakness this year apparently. That indicates a bigger problem.

 

Falcons play calling reminded me so much of ours (Cowboys) as well, which is a bad, bad sign.

 

I get that the Falcons were bad in the redzone last year but it's one game against a very good defense.

 

Sure. I don't think people are already brushing them off for the season, but it seems that the play calls and whatnot were what has plagued them for a while now and they still look the same so far.

 

Yeah, it's gonna be a problem until they get a new OC or he adjusts (probably won't).

Same reason I'm concerned about the Jags season. Gonna call two runs up the middle for no gain and then a deep pass to a receiver incapable of winning 50/50 balls.

 

Like we could blame it on Thursday night football, but they had pretty much all preseason to prep. We could blame the rain delay, but come on. We could blame week 1 rust.

But like, man those offensive play calls looked bad and some of Ryan’s throws were AWFUL. I am so excited for Sunday to hopefully watch any QB be able to move the ball down the field effectively.

 

Idk where you’re getting this from? This sounds more like our offense under Greg Olson. We make consistent offensive progress in the running game and make much easier passes with Marrone. Half of why we did so well last year is because for the most part our subpar offense was well managed.

Marrone isn’t Doug Pederson; there are certainly times we could be smarter, but our playcalling is typically a lot more sensible than how you just depicted it at least.

 

What do y'all think of the green zone thing? I like it.

I think it's best attribute is when the defense is in the backfield and the camera moves to where you can't see the yellow first down line anymore. It really gives you context for how far back the sack or whatever is.

I’m with you guys on the ref calls and the disappointing QB play last night... but from a defensive perspective that was an entertaining game.

I see a lot of people bitching but to be honest that game still got me excited for football season. Maybe y’all can’t relate, whatever. Sometimes games progress slowly and aren’t about frequent scoring, I appreciate the patience and diversity of this sport, and how a defensive victory is still a victory.

 

Oh, to be clear, I'm 100% ecstatic football is back and I watched until the final second.

You’re like, focusing on one half of one game, where several terrible referee calls completely deflated our momentum when we were ahead.

That was not an accurate or fair statement about our overall approach on the offensive side of the ball. We fucked up against the Patriots, it’s hard to keep your confidence when you have to walk on eggshells to avoid bullshit penalties. But to say our offense is “no gain/ no gain / long pass” is definitely more pessimism than realism.

Bortles wouldn’t have posted decent numbers at all in an offense like that.
