i saw sugar ray play a free show in cleveland a couple years ago. it was a parking lot show for some little street fair, there were probably no more than a couple hundred people there.

they were surprisingly good live, and mark did nothing but essentially roast himsef and the band the whole time. it was incredible.

 

I did a big analysis last night on this. If Bauhaus is a no, we also have to consider that Elvis Costello has probably canceled for health issues and there's also a possibility that Blink did too.

The usual go to is the local heroes, unfortunately, Fall Out Boy and Rise Against both are playing this week at Wrigley and are both on tour that weekend.

Going through potential headliners, the most likely fill in for the money, relationship, and headlining status is a Weezer fill in. They've played RF twice, haven't played since 2014, are super hot with their curent TOTO cover, just finished up a headlining tour (so they're fresh and tight), and are NOT on tour. Flaming Lips are not on tour, played headlining sets twice, but it's only been since 2016... not too far, but at this point, ya take what you can get.

Interestingly, I contacted them today to seek a vendor table and they told me that their vendor area was sold out.

 

In spite of the many, many fantastic albums and artists to emerge from the 90's, Sugar Ray is still the quintessential "sound" of that era in my head.

I'm pretty convinced that Blink-182 are still a go (given that they booked/announced a string of dates around that weekend).

And while I'm less certain about Elvis Costello... I really think he's going to be a go as well. The whole thing about his surgery was that he just needed a bit more time to recover. He canceled the dates in July, the surgery was in May. And the primary concern was around him doing a string of 90+ minute sets each night. This is one date where he'll play ~60 minutes.

I'd be way into a Weezer set, but man would people be pissed if that's what they got after this wait... The Flaming Lips would just bum me the fuck out haha.

Interesting that the vendor area is sold out, though! That assuages some of the financial concerns people keep referencing...

Also that tells me schedule is imminent. You need to know who's playing what day to schedule interviews. Maybe we get the 5pm surprise?

 

Well, that would make me happy... Honestly, it was refreshing to hear somebody closely associated with the festival say that the delays were "for a good reason."

I'd wager we're in for a 5pm announcement of an announcement with more details tomorrow.

But you know how this shit works better than any of us, I'm sure!

Jake of Sleep On It also tweeed this. It’s no excuse for how delayed everything has been, no matter what kind of festival it is. He’s just saying this because he has ties to the festival and his band has played it numerous years.

 

ive been stuck in the warehouse all day so i just caught up on 5 pages here. dont have any news to break, i was gutted when i saw the Loufest news first thing this morning, but after this Love Rollercoaster, im feeling cautiously optimistic.

RF sent out an email to artisan vendors with a link link used to check-in, name vendor staff, and includes all info about the booth, rules, regs, etc. so that's great to hear too (note: my friend has a booth every year.)
