Oof. That made me uncomfortable to read. The thought of not getting a refund for my ticket if it gets canceled is making me queasy, considering I did the whole VIP thing. Haha.

It can definitely happen, though I'm still feeling like it's going to go down... I can see my optimism waning with every hour that passes today without an announcement, now that the Sox thing is done and dusted.

After sitting on it and doing a bit more "research," the permits bit is likely a non-issue. It probably is/was visa issues, but I'd guess at this point they're re-sorting some of the bands to make the schedules work... And if memory serves, a number of the bigger acts all had dates surrounding the festival that would make them being bumped up to headliner status tricky.

I remember that shit! I had an entire road trip planned around that festival... That line-up was awesome too.

I would imagine that's mostly after shows. Although, Aragon and the Riviera don't generally host after shows, so there may be something to this.

Which he of all people should know that having contracts means nothing when there are festivals canceling days before they start.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

This was the only year I went. Those damn bees.

    Whatever. Forever.

I think moving Riot Fest to the burbs wouldn't be the worst idea tbh.

I think it would be a terrible idea! Burbs are pretty difficult if you don’t have a car.

Uh oh. If you go to Riot Fest's lineup page, scroll to the bottom and click "LODGING" or "LOCKERS," it links to a sign-in page where it asks for admin credentials. I tried Lockers no more than 2-3 days ago and it took me to the site where you buy lockers as normal. That can't be a good sign.

That's not hosted on their site. Could be anything.

Not possible. Can’t do Sox parking lot because there’s always a chance every season the Sox will make the playoffs and would thus need the parking lot. United Center wouldn’t want to have the Peking lot closed off for 10 or so days because that means they can’t hold any other events there.

Oz Park is too small - that’s actually where my family has a football game every thanksgiving so I know how small it is. Plus nobody in Lincoln Park is going to want Riot Fest there. Going out to the suburbs could work, say Tinley Park (there’s a convention center there and the big major ampitheater), but who wants to drive out there? Plus it’s almodt inaccessible via public transportation.

Size wise, Grant Park would work but I doubt they would ever want to host another festival the size of Riot Fet a month after Lollapalooza. Plus, it is probably too much money.

This happened to me a few days ago but I clicked something else and got taken to the correct site.

    1) The festival is held in September. Playoffs start in October. You work with the stadium to use the open weekend because there's at least one or two in September anyway.

    2) We already established Oz Park is too small.

    3) Grant Park is in use for the Marathon a couple of weeks after Riot Fest. That and Lollapalooza mean it will never work.

Do you not have ticket protection in America?

Only asking cause in the UK we have to be refunded if it doesn't go ahead or for a large change in artists/location, and we can pay like £1 and have guaranteed refunds even if we are just ill or can't go.

I avoided bee stings in 2014, only to get stung the following year in Douglas Park during De La Soul.

Re: LouFest: I really wanted to go to that fest as well, but figured I shouldn't do festivals on back-to-back weekends. Here's hoping I still get the one I really wanted!

You typically have to purchase it in additional to the ticket.

If it goes to the burbs I’ll never go to another riot again and this is year like 5 ina row for me

    nah.

what about Addams/Medill Park? they host Ruidofest in June/July. they only have two stages and it's much smaller but that park is still pretty big.

everyone is talking about other parks being too small — why?

granted i’m unfamiliar with how small these places are, but are we really thinking it’s out of the realm of possibility that riot fest — if they even continue on — significantly downsizes moving forward?

  25. campeondeluniverso

    nah.

i'd imagine they'd downsize after this year?
