Well, it's the first non-conjecture bit of evidence we've been privy to. It has me a bit nervous too... I forget what the hotel cancellation policy is, but I'll be looking that up tonight. If this shit gets canceled, I've already decided I'm switching my vacation to late October and just going to the Fest. Haha.

But. For what it's worth? The last update was on the 28th (last Tuesday) and updates happen weekly. So, given the holiday? We're looking at a possible update tomorrow... Assuming they stick to the same schedule every week.

Or late tonight. It’s probably just a pull from the database.

Even if this festival goes on and the second wave and all other information is released, that should not absolve them of all that has happened so far with them.

Riot Fest night at the ballpark was just rwo quick ads on the Jumbotron,Riot Mike throwing out the first pitch l, and the guy at the booth being openly annoyed when I asked about the schedule.

I'm sure people were asking them about that shit all night. What did they say when you asked?

Hey cancel the festival, but still let me see Alkaline Trio and we’re good

Let’s say the festival is canceled within a weeks notice or less or there is no other headliner/second wave, do people have any legal ground to sue Riot Fest on for either lying about information or
not giving adequate notice on cancellation on the fest? May sound extreme but am genuinely curious if someone would be within their rights to sue Riot Fest.

I would guess they have that covered somehow within the language on the site when you purchase tickets. They're not liable for blah, blah, blah...

Saying they have a second wave of bands coming and not delivering on that would be a different story, but even that would be questionable given the whole "artists subject to change without notice" or whatever it usually says.

EDIT: Here it is. "Rain or Shine event. Tickets are nonrefundable/nontransferable. All event information, including lineup is subject to change."

Yeah I’m hoping we get something soon.
My flight isn’t refundable, but I think we can cancel our hotel until a day or two before, so that’s good at least.
If it gets cancelled, I think we’ll still do the week in Chicago and just do a bunch of stuff we’ve wanted to. This trip has become a yearly thing for us and we try and do Chicago things the days we aren’t at the festival, so at least it’s give us some more time for that.

Just that everyone was asking and that he didn't have the answer yet.

    He seemed reeealy deflated.

I got to the game at 6:30, so it's not possible that more than a handful of people asked before me

(It's a White Sox game in September. Not a lot of peoepe show up to those)

Well, whoever it was... Basically got thrown to the lions. Haha. So I don't blame them for feeling/seeming defeated. I used to work promotions for a radio station here in Boston, and we had a situation where shit was up in the air with some of the on-air staff and the number of people who came up and asked us about it at events got to be intense.

It sucks when you're the face of an organization that doesn't have their shit together, haha.

That's the right attitude, I think. Making the most off t and stuff. If shit goes south, I just hope I have enough time to cancel/get a refund for my hotel, anyway... My flight wasn't too expensive, so it'd suck eating that cost but it sucks way less than eating the cost of the hotel.

I love Chicago, but I'd be making the trip alone. I'm meeting up with a friend who will have already been there all week, and I really doubt he'd want to just hang out in the city for another weekend. But I'm already looking into other shit to do that weekend just in case...

I read up on Reddit a bit more, and apparently shit like this isn't entirely uncommon for larger events (and if you look at the later events approved--they're significantly smaller, more common affairs compared to a 10k+ festival). Somebody also said it's the kind of thing where it won't get approved until the fire marshal checks it out or some shit...

All I'm saying is: This isn't the best news, but there's still hope! Haha.

It just seems impractical not to at least announce the aftershows

Nothing can be holding those back

One time I saw Dillinger Four open for the Bouncing Souls and they were five minutes late starting to perform because Paddy didn't have his nachos.

They were literally on-stage, instruments in hand and he just kept yelling for his nachos to be side-stage before they started playing.

So. I guess what I'm trying to say is... Dillinger Four is confirmed to be performing an after show. Because Riot Fest is late. Like the nachos.

See and that’s where at the end of the day it has to be something with legal or the actual show itself, cause otherwise nothing makes any sense. I’m not even going but at this point I gotta know what happened....and they have to address it at this point. It’s def something at this point. This is major disorganization for a major festival that could have an effect on future attendance for years to come.

I’m just saying I understand if something happened with a band or even a few bands and they still don’t know if they can announce the second wave or schedule

Clearly some hope that they’ll figure it out but maybe they still are trying to make it plausible

But the aftershows (if happening) are booked and have been for awhile and that’s whats confusing

I don’t think this has anything to do with the permit. The Chicago Marathon for 9/24 is still listed as tentative. And that is definitely gonna fucking happen. Big events don’t go as quick as local church pot luck at Douglas Park. I’m back to thinking Bauhaus doesn’t have their visa yet and perhaps Costello is still waiting about his health and they are holding out as long as they can before they start bumping the lower acts up to later slots....and possibly sales. Lol, but definitely not the permit

eh, at this point the permit thing has more merit than bauhaus causing a delay IMO

because this is a bigger deal than just bauhaus. it’s the lack of after shows, daily lineups, etc. bauhaus (if they are the final headliner) should not be holding them back from releasing the daily lineup/schedules. for example, Bunbury this past year released the daily lineup + set times in advance. when blink dropped off a few days before the fest, they originally wiped their slot off the daily lineup until they could re configure the daily set times. but there was also a chance they couldn’t re organize set times — they were at least transparent about it.

if you are truly waiting on the third headliner (which is a hilariously bad thing to do 10 days before your fest), you can still unveil the daily lineups and just have ??? listed as the last headliner.

this has to be something bigger than just waiting on a freaking visa.

(i know people have asked riot and they’ve responded saying “yes the fest is definitely
happening!” but what do you expect them to say? “no, i mean — we don’t know. maybe? we aren’t sure!”)

I do think the show is happening, one way or another (probably without any more bands being added?), but it will definitely affect future years if we even get another Riot Fest.

Not announcing the aftershows is weird.

Had tickets for two large cancelled events in my life.

1 was WeaselFest, which fell apart because Ben Weasel punched two women in the face in Austin.

The other was the 1 day Riot Fest Brooklyn in 2012 due to rare NYC tornados.

If #3 is because of fucking Park permits, I'll be very irritated. At least have an entertaining story, ya know?

If Riot weekend, at bare minimum, ends up being just this current lineup and nothing else, I'm honestly fine with that. There's quite a few bands I wanna see and this has been my favorite part of every year. So, shitshow notwithstanding, I'm stoked.

Obviously more bands and dates and aftershows are welcome at any time now, obvi.
