Oh goodness. I love it! I actually like it more than the album version. The lyrics stood out to me more.

I miss the fun and energy in the album version. Acoustic is fine, just not my fave.

Bumping this thread just to say that this album is still in heavy rotation for me. It also has some great track pairings:

    1) Prayers/Forget Me Not
    2) Etta James/Her Majesty's Service
    3) Little Nightmares/Sleepwalkers (personal favorite)
    4) Watson/SYOTOS

Side note, I could see Little Nightmares being a big single on rock/alt-rock stations.

This has remained an extremely solid album for me. I don't listen to it all the time, but whenever I do, I enjoy the hell out of it and it's always a little better than I remember it being.

My favorite song combo is still Neptune - Watson though, as I think those are my two favorites on the album along with Etta James and the title track.

Etta James is still the goddamn best.

I feel like both of Brian’s solo albums have lost steam pretty quickly, outside of the diehards.

i dont come back to this as much as i thought i might, but Etta James, Watson, and My Name is the Night are jaaaaaaaaaams

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Still one of my favorites of this year.

I realize I am one of said diehards, but I think "Painkillers" would have been dramatically improved by including a fully studio produced "Georgia", the song "Low Love" and honestly the MATZ arrangement of "Long Drives" but studio recorded.

The second half of this album is just so good from start to finish. I don't love pairing number 2, based solely on my indifference toward etta james.

your indifference is towards Etta James and not Her Majesty's Service? interesting

This album is still great, and I agree that the 2nd half, and Neptune/Watson (into See You On The Other Side) in particular, are the best parts.

Both of his solo albums I think were impacted by my own expectations

I loved Painkillers because I expected not to.
I was pretty indifferent to Sleepwalkers because I expected to love it.

I think sleepwalkers was quite a bit better, but I love both of these albums.

I think Watson is such a terrific song . For some reason I just listen to gaslight and Fallon in certain phases

Watson has such strong Wallflowers vibes imo and it’s a beautiful thing

Neptune drags on just a little too long for me. I love the song but you could trim 30 seconds off it and it’d still be good. I also think Etta James would’ve worked as a penultimate track but then that means you’d have Watson, Etta then SYOTOS, and I just don’t think i’d be emotionally capable of handling that order of songs.

I think it's time to finally start spinning this again now that we're on the other side of Labor Day.

Also - I have an extra copy of the deluxe edition of the album (45 RPM, red, unopened). DM me if interested.

Both his solo albums have come out super early in the year, with the first pre-release singles dropping the year before.

To me it seems like everyone forgets albums that come out really early in the year by the time year-end best lists and AOTY talk rolls around.
