The first one is okay but established an interesting premise but limited to the movie’s budget. I liked the two sequels more because they were able to expand on that. Haven’t seen The First Purge.

Lol I love how most of the bad guys die by getting shot just before they’re about to kill someone

Junkfood Cinema did an episode on The Omen II and I realized I've never seen it, gonna be checking that out this weekend, probably some other spooky flicks as well, but haven't decided which yet!

Oh nice. Time to stock up a bit. I love their stuff, but it’s usually so expensive.

Just finished The Purge: Anarchy and I thought it was way worse than the first. The dialogue, the acting, all terrible. It felt like watching call of duty lol

The Strangers - Prey At Night any good and how much revalue would you get from watching the first?

  14. This could all be valid (I haven't seen it since it was in theaters), but I feel like it did way more to embrace both it's camp value and potential to be an action-horror hybrid, and that's why it stood out more to me than the first film. If you don't like the direction Anarchy takes, you're probably not going to like the other sequels much either
I think somebody may have asked about this last week, but I thought it was a blast. Lots of Carpenter worship, which is up my alley. The soundtrack and cinematography are great. I also remember next to nothing about the original aside from the ending, so it's definitely not necessary, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt if you really wanted to. They're pretty different films.

I couldn't stand it, and feel it actually hurts the movie more to have seen the first one.

I'm gonna do a double-bill of them anyway.
There was a certain scene messaged that set me up with this throught process.

  18. Picked up the Friday the 13th collection a few months back (Parts 1-8) and started it just in time to keep up with In Voorhees We Trust with Gourley and Rust. Planning on posting whatever thoughts I have in here as I'd only seen the original, remake, and Freddy vs. Jason previously.

Still love the first film. It's interesting to read about the critical reception to that film, and to hear about some of the cast and crew distancing themselves, admitting to it being a Halloween ripoff, etc. I really do feel it earned its cultural legacy and opened the door for many of the slasher franchises we love despite emulating something more...intellectual and technically impressive. But I also think that's where a lot of the film's charm comes from - it's low budget, campy (no pun intended) feel. And all things considered, some of the performances are really good. For better or worse, it's a classic.

Part 2 was new to me, and I went in with high hopes as it seems to be a fan favorite. And it was really solid for the most part. No major twists this time around, formulaic (as expected), but the stuff with Jason's mother toward the end of the film is a fun touch. The kills are more or less on par with the first film, but it's great to see Jason putting in the work, even without the hockey mask. Because it adds almost nothing new, there were times where the film just felt like it was sort of just "there," but I'd imagine that's par for the course as the franchise moves forward, so I'm just excited to settle down for some more old-school kills. The best part about running through these franchises is finally getting to see all these movies I'd study endlessly at the video rental place, but was never allowed to rent haha.

Have you listened to the lastest I Was There Too live show with 13th cast members? Listened at work yesterday with two actors from Part 5, which prompted me to watch it last night. I know it’s considered a low point in the series but it’s still fun.

Also, when I was a kid my dad was friends with a guy who own a small video store and whenever we came to visit, I’d walk the aisles and studied all the vhs box art and that was my intro to a lot of horror movies.

  20. I have not! I'll definitely hold onto that rec until I watch Part V.

Also, the music in the first film is ridiculously good.

Grabbed the Friday and Halloween sets off Amazon. I understand they aren't the best quality in terms of packaging, but are the Halloween BDs the same as the one in the Fancy set just without the display?

  22. I’ve never seen any of the movies in either of these franchises:

    Friday the 13th
    Nightmare on Elm Street

Which one should I watch tonight?

Just how bad was Truth or Dare? Worth Redboxing for $1 if I enjoy most Blumhouse stuff?

Might just go for Upgrade on second thought. But I'm interested in both

Watched Blood Fest last night. Actually liked it more than I thought I would. I recommend it if you're into comedy/horror movies.
