Saw them live twice now. They are really damn good live. MUCH better live than on record but the new stuff sounds like it may change that.

You would think the closer the fest was the more they would be posting on social media

if its Peter murphy visa issues holding off the announcement, why hold off literally ALL information, why not give info, even 2nd wave and just keep the 3rd headliner a mystery?

If its finding a 3rd headliner in general, same above still applies, but also Camp Punk in Drublic replaced 2 of their key bands, including a headliner on just 24 hour notice. I know an RF headliner is up a few notches in the pay scale than PiD, but still...

Hopefully my excitement for going to see X tonight will distract me from my new found resentment haha!

Oh dope! We definitely played with PTW awhile back at Bottom Lounge. I was the bassist / clean singer. That band is a soap opera behind the scenes so I'm no longer with them for my sanity haha. Putting my focus on the skatepunk-y band Guardrail that I front now.

Also, if Peter Murphy has had problems getting his visa approved in the past why is RF putting it all on them? Why not wait to have them in 2019 and someone more reliable to headline this year? This is crazy

  11. campeondeluniverso

    nah.

i just looked up El Famous on youtube. that music video of them looking for a bassist and my friend is the first bassist to "try out." that guy plays for The Burst and Bloom. i'm gonna check out Guardrail.

Had a dream last night that I went to the RF office with you guys and some Reddit peeps. It was a protest and we refused to leave until we got answers

Ah a friend of a friend of mine is in The Burst And Bloom. Yeah that video is so odd haha. Guardrail is playing this Punk The Burbs thing on 9/22 with The Queers, The Bollweevils, and a bunch of other bands which should be dope.

Thoughts on the Peter Murphy thing below...

I hope that if Riot Fest has an issue pulling in a third "large scale" headliner they at LEAST pull in an additional act who would normally be on line 2 or 3 of the line-up. That's the sort of opportunity I kind of wish festivals would give certain acts, anyway. Billing somebody as a headliner when they're pretty close to it, anyway, can sometimes push up their popularity a tick or two to the point where in a few years they're legit headliners.

All anybody knows is that Peter Murphy had visa issues in the past. Nobody knows whether or not it's been resolved.

Too, based on that one person's text messages that they shared (assuming it's all accurate)... There was an "older band" that would be a big deal and a back-up plan in case that didn't work out. So they might not be betting it all on them.

If Bauhaus is the back-up? OOF.

They'd have been better off pulling what Maryland Deathfest does - announcing the entire lineup that they're planning on putting together and then announce later on if a band can't play because of visa issues or whatever. That's happened so many times with that festival (I've gone every year for the past 4 years), I expect it at this point because it's part for the course.

I think my biggest issue with this is the transparency thing. If you're having issues because of securing visas for a particular headliner, just deflect to the ineptitude of the current American government's immigration and travel processes. It's an easy target, but I imagine your average Riot Fest attendee would understand and commiserate. If they were transparent about the whole thing, it'd restore a lot of good faith in the org, IMO.

I remember talking to a fest booker (was one of many who booked a major in the US of A) and this person stated most if not all large-ish festivals will book more than the standard amount (IE- Riot Fest has three so they'll work on booking four) because cancellations happen all the time. This explains why sometimes you see HOLY CRAP! lineups: sometimes NOBODY cancels and you're left with No Doubt, System Of A Down, Modest Mouse, Iggy AND Prodigy's only North American dates in now nearly a decade.

So Riot Fest likely would have booked, say, Bauhaus and Run The Jewels/Weezer/Yeah Yeah Yeahs/etc.

Edit: also, that explains why one set of ????s leads to two top six additions. They expect one and get both!

The silence is the only part that I have an issue with. It doesn’t even have to be specific. All we need is a tweet “we’re working on the 2nd wave, it’s coming hopefully next week; schedule will be released the week of the festival along with map”

Completely fair...I think I'm just used to the absurd amount of transparency that MDF gives about their entire booking process at this point. It makes getting used to how other festivals do things a bit difficult because I love it so much.

I wasn't even thinking of them (admittedly, I didn't have anybody in mind) but that's exactly what I was getting at! It'd be awesome for them!

I'm struggling to think of any other names (the Gaslight anthem, maybe?) who would fit in such a slot, though I'm sure there's some...

I'd imagine that pisses people off just as much, though, no?

The kind of people throwing hissy fits on the daily about the whole Riot Fest thing would be saying the same exact shit they're saying now if they did that. Except it would be the reverse: "What the hell, Riot Fest? You're a garbage organization who can't get their shit together. DON'T ANNOUNCE BANDS UNLESS YOU KNOW FOR SURE THEY'RE PLAYING!"

    It's a lose-lose.

That being said? It'd be nice for them to at least acknowledge the delays. I definitely agree there! And if something is up with a visa or whatever... Good to know, but we're still not 100% that Bauhaus is the third headliner because... No announcements (LOL).

Again, I'm probably just basing it on my expectations with festivals at this point. Everyone is going to be different. I'd rather know what they're trying to pull off, and then if they're not going to be able to put it together, tell us and be transparent. That kind of good faith goes a long way in my eyes, especially if it's something like visa issues. I can't tell you the number of times I've been burned because of that at this point, both at festivals and tours, so I'm just kind of like, "whatever, that sucks, but you can't control it" if it happens. Basically the walking embodiment of the shrug emoji.

Instead of being negative today let's all just appreciate the fact there is a new Alkaline Trio record and that we will be seeing them on Friday or Sunday in 2 weeks
