Here's the thing about any post like this: I'm willing to believe that the users here who say "A person I know told me XYZ."

But when people just start throwing shit like this around... In such a way that it's clearly anonymous (and presumably untraceable) I don't usually buy it. Mind you, I'm also starting to think that some of what is referenced in his post is accurate...

But we've had at least two different people come in this thread claiming to know who the third headliner would be, there's been a few people on Reddit talking like they know what's happening for a while now, etc. And so far, nothing.

And really, that post is just a conglomeration of everything everybody's been saying independently. Which either makes it way more legit (and the people are right) or it's just somebody being an asshole. That post wasn't up for very long, so if somebody got in trouble over it... Riot Fest must be really patrolling Reddit aggressively to find out who it was, etc.

I'll hold off until Thursday before I decide I believe any of it. That's the most concrete, provable fact in that Reddit message. If the info doesn't come on Thursday? I'm calling shenanigans. If it does? Well, shit.

I could see it downsize before cancellation. Maybe not even in terms of stages, but as far as headliner size.

Speaking of which: All this talk about them being short on funds and what-not. Maybe I'm underestimating the cost to book some of these artists, but on the whole, this year's line-up DOES feel smaller (and a bit cheaper) than last years by quite a bit.

    I'd assume Incubus.

Curious if the fake account that posted all those things about them not having an idea and out of money, etc... was just someone's attempt to get someone else in trouble. Brain_of_JFK (u/Brain_of_JFK) - Reddit is a user on FB with other posts where they clearly are posting things in speculation like everyone else. The user that posted the stuff about Riot Fest then deleted the account was Brian_of_JFK. I could see wanting to post something crazy, then delete it, and see if Brian_of_JFK gets in trouble for it, or confused for the guy who posted it...if Riot Fest people see it, and maybe Brain_of_JFK knows them, they'll think it was him? Who knows...maybe I'm just rambling and my brain is fried from all this. Just weird two people with that close names active in the reddit thread

Headliners cost a lot. I've been speculating with friends that maybe even some mid-level acts that previously have played aren't playing anymore because they didn't get paid. Or maybe some headliners didn't get paid in time so now they aren't getting as big of headliners as they previously would have. I don't know, it's all speculation.

I feel like shit about bands not getting paid or whatever always comes out, and leads to the demise of festivals (e.g., SoundWave, a few other festivals that got cancelled, Montebello Rockfest hasn't been cancelled but they filed for bankruptcy). But if that's the case, I think we'd be hearing about it by now. Or rumblings of it. If anything, that may be what they're looking at for next year if ticket sales are as bad as people are saying.

I guess my thought here is that I'd guess Blink-182 is equivalent, but... Would any of the other acts on there cost as much as Jawbreaker, or even Queens of the Stone Age (who keep touring relatively rare and play arenas)?

I don't know. It just feels like the top few lines wouldn't be as pricey as the last few years, but this is also based on pure speculation.

That's a solid catch. There's no way those two accounts aren't linked with such a similar name. Could also be somebody who posted something as a joke, mocking the person posting all of the speculations... Then deleted it when they realized people were actually running with it.

Blink is 100% on Friday and Beck is 100% on Saturday. From the prediction list I posted, Incubus and Blondie are both slated for Sunday based on prior tour dates. Interpol is for sure Saturday, so it wouldn't be them.

And many bands speak highly of Riot Fest so I would assume they’re all being paid. Many bands have also returned to Chicago multiple times or Riot Fest in other cities.

Remember when the lineup first game out, one of the bands (I think Incubus) released a different version of the first wave. It said that this was Blondie’s last Chicago performance.

...I’m surprised nothing has popped up regarding that.

She probably changed her mind about retiring in the time between that initial draft and the official poster.

The only time I saw Limp Bizkit was at a festival in 2013 and they didn't play Rollin' and they haven't even been back to FL since then.

I'm seeing them at Self Help at the end of September for the meme. Also to hear Break Stuff. I'm very anxious and excited.

LOL, okay, I am Brain_of_JFK (it's in homage to Pearl Jam's Yield track 'Brain of J') I have been on the Riot Fest Reddit board for the past two months trying to find out when the schedule and Second Wave have been coming. I never heard of this site (chorus.fm) until someone posted that link today about another 'insider'. So I was going back and forth between here and Reddit until I saw that throwaway account and the message. I copied and sent it to my wife to see if she thought it looked legit and when I came back it was deleted, so I posted it within the the deleted message so others could see it. I went back to work, came back and saw someone took my post and brought it out of the deleted message, but I could have sworn he/she had my username spelled correctly at first. Then the next time I went back I saw it was changed to 'Brian'_of_JFK....no idea why. But I don't think that 'Brian' account ever existed, nor do I know why they changed it. My original post is still there with my correct name on it, so fucked if I know why they changed it or spelled my name wrong. I'm computer programmer for a company on the northside of Chicago. I have no ties to Riot Fest other than attending it and I'm just trying to find out what the hell is going on like all of you are. Just be nice to my Reddit account, lol, I've had it for like 9 years and I like it. I don't want to be considered a troll :-p

Oh wow, I totally misread that post on Reddit. I read it as that other guy posting the deleted post by Brian_of_JFK, thinking you that person/you made the original post that was deleted. Didn't realize you were already relaying it, and didn't make the original post. And, clicking on the Brian one showed that account didn't exist. Sorry for the mistake!

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

Reminds me of Riot 2016 when Against Me! accidentally posted a first draft of the Denver lineup poster and it stated that Devo was playing and it was their final tour. AM! quickly deleted it, and Devo didn’t end up touring that year. Or breaking up...

I don't think anybody around here really cares, and I don't mean that in a snarky way. Haha. But thanks for clarifying.

Aw man, I didn't know that! Interesting.

Part of me wishes there would be a documentary made about "close calls" that festivals had. Like, "We almost had band X but it fell through because of XYZ." Obviously this wouldn't happen for a number of reasons, but I'd still find it really interesting.

Total shitshow. And those are just the bands willing to talk about it.

Me finding the evidence I've been craving that Redditers lurk here and occassionally post what we say as fact (not that Brian_of_JFK did that).

Well on the plus side there won’t be such a horribly long wait for the water stations this year... and on the other hand RF might be a more slim fest next year. Either way this sucks. None of my usual RF friends have tickets this year since the daily lineup is delayed.

If I makes you feel better, I know we just met, but I’ll happily take the place of your girlfriend. I can compliment your best features and send you dank memes
