The Miseducation Of Cameron Post (Desiree Akhavan, August 3, 2018) Movie

Haven't watched the trailer but just reading the description I know this is gonna fuck me up

 

This looks good

 

seems super similar to But I'm A Cheerleader

 

Not trying to pick on you, but these are two completely different movies. Whereas Cheerleader is more satire and making fun of the absurdity behind the idea of conversion therapy, this is a much more realistic portrayal and look at the issue. I wouldn’t want someone to go into this thinking they’re getting cathartic satire when that’s not what it is.

Also, the book this is based on is great and I highly recommend it

 

Boy Erased having a straight director and lead and mostly Australian cast is definitely not ideal I guess is the word

 

Chloe was great in this and Sasha Lane remains the most captivating person on earth
having a bi woman direct this definitely gave it another feel, some scenes would have a completely different vibe with a male gaze
this was definitely a very subtle movie, but also made the point that gay conversion is torture even if it's not electroshock, the fact that that's still a thing and that people disown and displace their kids for being LGBTQ will never not be infuriating and heartbreaking for me, I can't imagine doing that to your kid

 

Really liked this, everyone was really great. Agreed that it was subtle, but I also wish it was longer. Last half hour was heartbreaking stuff.

 

I'm halfway through and if this doesn't end with Cameron brutally assaulting the Doctor and her Aunt I will consider this movie a failure.
