Scott from Frightened Rabbit had an interesting theory about how the first record you hear from your favorite bands will always be your favorite album from them. I think it might check out.

  2. I don't trust people that didn't like Goldfinger. ;-p

I don't think I'd pinpoint his production style the way most do. His work on something like "Papercut Skin" is different than what he's done with The Used, or Story of the Year, or Showoff. I also think people have confirmation bias in this regard. They look at his production credits and go "I don't like these bands/albums so therefore I don't like Feldmann as a producer." And I don't really think that logic follows.

And, if someone doesn't like "Little Maggots" I'm ready to fight.

I would tend to agree with that and it makes complete sense.

Fuck. I didn't even see this on the list I read. I loved this record.

I guess you're probably right. So I don't know how to explain it then. I'm looking at the list now and Decomposer is literally the only record on that list I like. Maybe it does chalk up to the songs/the band, but I've genuinely loved every blink-182 record up to California. Even with Neighborhoods, I could look past the shitty production and enjoy those songs, but with California I just can't. I'm immediately bored.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Foxy Shazam's S/T was also produced by him and sounds incredible, but Cavallo did also produce on that too. He's got a few albums that sound good production-wise to me, but more often than not I haven't liked the bands he's worked with, and I still really don't like California, but I can't deny that Feldmann is talented in what he does, it just isn't for me most the time.

There’s not much I’m even wanting out of blink-182 anymore. If the next album has some fun songs that I’ll play that summer it’ll be good enough for me but I’m not really dying for a new album like I used to

Feldmann has done some of the most creative editing and manipulating of sound that I've heard. Lies For The Liars comes to mind. I wouldn't want to hear blink in the way he's produced other bands.. which is why I was happy he went for a fun Summer record with California.

I may not be particularly fond of how California ended up sonically.. but they had a vision, and they nailed it.

As some in this thread have said, California did exactly what it was supposed to do. Blink was in the front of the public's consciousness during that record cycle. I couldn't escape Bored To Death for that entire Summer..

I came around on Sober a while back. The verses are so catchy.. love Matt's vocals on that song.

My problem isn’t Feldman directly. I enjoyed California a lot.

But my question is for those who like Feldman, did you find yourself bored with the deluxe album? Cause I did.

And it’s not 100% on him. It’s all the members of the band dishing out another album of the exact same thing. And my fear is this next album will be that again, and that will NOT be fun.

I think a good step is moving on from Feldman and the way he works to shake it up. I just want something that sounds fresh, and that also falls on Mark, Travis, and Matt.

  22. I find myself "bored" with most music after a few months. I mean, I'm 'bored' of Enema too at this point. The issue with the extra songs was just that they simply weren't as well written as the ones from California. They felt like the remnants of those sessions.

If they release the "same album" again, that's then what the band wants to release though. Blaming the producer, IMO, is backwards. Blame the band. I'd assume the next album is going to be similar to what the band's released for most of their careers ... I've had fun with all those releases and I don't see any reason to expect differently now.

If Blink-182 changed as dramatically as it seems people want, I guarantee people would hate that just as much. If they released something like the last All Time Low, or FOB, or 5SOS album ... which are all good pop rock albums ... people would hate it. And I think that's where it would go before it would be some Descendents or Bad Religion sounding album.

People get mad that I speak the truth lol. Look I love this band, but let’s be honest, these songs on California can’t compare to:

    Not now
    Stockholm syndrome
    Obvious
    Here’s your letter
    Natives

I think blink still has some good songs left in them, but I think you are delusional if you don’t think tom not being in the band hurts them creatively
