Sorry I'm just rambling now because I'm confused and thinking about it:

Why they wouldn't at this point as a bare minimum just put out the single day tickets. Even if they don't have the daily lineup ready (which idk how they wouldn't), if they just said what day blink and Beck were playing, surely they will be able to pick up several ticket sales for fans who just want to see those specific artists.

I'm just looping back at this point but... maybe they are still worried about Travis Barker. It'd be easy enough for blink to cancel their little tour if Travis can't do it (none of those venues are even that massive) and it's not like that's going to even dent blink's career so blink wouldn't have a problem announcing them even if they were unsure themselves if they would be able to go through with them. It's a much bigger deal for Riot Fest if they drop though, and RF may be scared that with people already being mad, if they put out single days and people buy just for blink, then they will be even more furious if blink cancels.

If that is combined with the ???? headliner having fallen through and them either still scrambling to replace them or having a really weak replacement, then I mean it may shed some more light on why they are just staying silent right now.

I am also baffled by some of their decisions that seem like really bad decisions from a business standpoint like not announcing the daily lineups and not selling single day or 2-day ticket packages. There must be a really good reason from a financial or logistical standpoint why the festival organizers are making these seemingly bad decisions that are angering people and preventing people from finalizing their weekend plans and allowing them to buy single day tickets. Are there insurance concerns delaying announcements? Does releasing the daily lineups or selling single day tickets trigger some contractual clause that requires them to make payments that they don't want to make yet?

Yea I have no idea but it’s clearly something out of their control now so I just hope everything runs as smooth as it can this year and they come back stronger next year.

I wanted to go next year, as do a lot of my friends, but honestly I think this is making me change my mind. Watching this from afar makes it seem like it's been kind of poorly organized and not very well communicated with fans. There must be something big going on behind the scenes.

Edit: Should point out that I am from the UK and we wanted to come over, visit Chicago and do the festival.

The only other time I've experienced a weird/bad rollout like this was around Bamboozle and that festival didn't last very long after that.

I dont think next year will be cancelled. They are already offering discounted tickets for next year to people who already purchased tickets at the introductory price.

What’s funny is that, even with a not so stellar lineup (at least as far as headliners go, but the undercard a bit too), Lollapalooza still rolled everything out in a timely manner. (Granted, it’s a bigger festival so more people are going to come regardless, but ticket sales were down a bit from previous years) not to mention, Lollapalooza had a number of lineup changes up until nearly the beginning of the festival.

In terms of ticket sales being lower than usual, I do think that coupled with a meh lineup so far, Riot is last on festival popularity. Like, I would say in terms of popularity for festivals in Chicago:

    1. Lollapalooza
    2. Pitchfork
    3. Riot Fest
    4. North Coast
    5. Mamby

In the whole picture, it is middle of the pack, but in terms of the big 3, it is last. Would you all agree?

Riot Fest has definitely damaged their brand and hurt their trust level with their customer base going forward. They mortgaged the future by slashing ticket prices this year in order to try to increase sales and attendance for this year's festival. The free single day passes and the $99 3-day passes for the 2019 festival are attempts to mitigate that damage and to placate angry ticketbuyers who paid higher prices for tickets during the pre-sale and initial lineup sale. What incentive is there for me to buy pre-sale tickets for an unknown lineup next year if there is a good possibility that tickets will be cheaper if I wait until later after the full lineup is announced?

I can agree with most of that but i don't think they are going to drop below $99 next year.

I'm still not sure why people feel the festival has done anything to hurt "trust" levels? Again, if they wind up NOT having a second wave or a third headliner like they've implied (and they don't bother to even explain why it happened--even if in the vaguest of terms) I can see that happening.

I also don't understand people who get upset about changing prices. I get it. It sucks, but I honestly don't view it as some sort of aggressive slight... It's just sort of... A thing that happens in life sometimes?

But I also never buy tickets for any festival before I see the line-up, so... I booked the whole thing after wave 1, based on what was included in that particular wave.

I guess I just view this all as "Well, they fucked up the roll-out this year..."
