Long time lurker here. Huge Thrice fan. Also a huge Cornell fan. Mike J, give the band Big Wreck a spin and start with their album Albatross.Think a more soulful, but less powerful Cornell on vocals and a mixture of '90s grunge with zeppelin inspired classic rock behind him.

I'm definitely a Big Wreck fan. Ian Thornley, as well as Jimmy Gnecco, are two of the best voices left.

I always enjoy Dustin's solo stuff, but I never really come back to it, post-release. There are a few exceptions, of course.

I was thinking something more like “Only Us” ended up being. Slightly electronic with a rock edge. He did the softer electronic thing on The Water EP, and he probably doesn’t want it sounding too much later like his solo material. It’ll be something cool to look forward to after Palms is out

Keep in mind, Kensboom teased another side project when he was still a part of that organization. Obviously, it never happened. So, I wouldn't hold my breath.

we're all a bunch of weirdos on a quest to belong Prestigious

It’s weird. Thrice has always been a top 3-4 band for me since Illusions Of Safety came out when i was 13. But i am just not anticipating this record like i should be. I like both singles a lot, Only Us is my favorite Thrice song since Beggars... maybe before that. But with mwY and boygenius to look forward to i keep not even thinking about Thrice! Someone get my hype machine turned on!!

I’m weirdly in the same boat. They’re my favorite band and I really like both singles but I’m not crazy excited for this. I’ll chalk it up to being so focused on my job search and knowing I shouldn’t buy records at the moment. It’s still my most anticipated but I don’t feel as on the edge excited as I was for To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere.

They have had their hype machine at cement crawl.

I’ve heard the arguments for album roll outs like this. They make sense for album sales numbers.

They are silly with the distribution engines that exist today. Announce things with tours lined up, get people stoked. Make your money on a tour with full excitement for the material before the moment passes. The physical release has to be sub 10% of their $$$

Yeah the 2 month wait between "The Grey" and "Only Us" really sucked.

I know I’m going to go to this tour. They will play a set of 15 songs. Maybe 3 from the new record. 2 months after it came out.

    What I would like is
    New record announced.
    Record release 30 days later
    Physical shipped whenever
    Tour on release date
    Play half the record
Sell a cool variant or poster
    Take my money

Either way. Only us is an ear worm for me. Really stoked for palms.

A few studio videos go a long way as TBE proved. That being said, I watched the 4-5 they did for TBE at least 20 times just to hear the ducked instrumentals. I'm relieved that 70% of this record will be fresh upon release.

And it doesn't help that they started recording the first week of February. You just can't sustain hype for 7 months via the bare minimum. Even I've exhausted all my hype.

2018: where bands can’t win for giving you new music most people will pay zero dollars for without people whining/complaining about how you do it.

I think the difference for me in this release, with them also being my favorite band, is that I’m not really allowing myself to be on a hype train. There’s certainly an air of anticipation for it, but I’ve let me excitement simmer for anything music related.

That simmered expection is probably a result of what all has happened in the past year. I’m just not feeling things the same as I used to, but I also don’t see that as a completely terrible thing.

I think it’s healthy to taper expectations and be all the more surprised if something blows us away, or if an artist disappoints us, on a musical or personal level, it’s easier to just shrug and move on.
