We will NOT get the 2nd wave today. (reverse psychology, has to work)

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

The 2nd wave will all be 2nd wave ska bands. I'm convinced.

Do they usually push ticket giveaways and their promotions so much? I don't recall them pushing it all so actively in previous years.

I find it hard to believe that there's any shot of the festival being cancelled if they're putting all of this time and energy into putting on these promotional events and contest. These things take time and energy to plan, set-up, and execute.

Not to mention I can’t imagine the uproar of cancelling this close when many people have booked flights and hotels already, there’s no way they’d wait this long to cancel unless of a very special circumstance like something happened and the park got destroyed tomorrow. They’d be more likely to hit decide not to add Any bands than cancel I think

I don't think this year will be cancelled, but if it has really poor sales if will have negative effects on next year and if 2019 also has poor sales maybe they wont make it again.

I am absolutely clueless and baffled as to what's happening this point

I don't see us getting anything this week and that means we'll be roughly 2 weeks away before getting anything

I feel like the local Riot Fest sponsors want to give away tickets so bad, I wouldn't be surprised if I found some in my shoe when I wake up tomorrow.

  10. It’s not even just local places. One of the record stores in my hometown (2+ hour drive from Chicago) is doing a ticket giveaway now.

Lots of ticket promos and ticket giveaways is what festivals do when ticket sales aren't meeting expectations. It raises the festival attendance, albeit at reduced revenue, but it helps to satisfy the attendance levels that were promised to vendors who paid high rental fees for booths. In addition, the ticket giveaways and promos will get more attendees in the gates who will potentially buy alcohol which the festival organizers make a high return on. Sasquatch Festival this year was giving out lots of free tickets since ticket sales were lower than expected.

I feel like Riot Fest and sponsors always had a bunch of promotions. I’ve entered them in years past. I think we’re all just noticing it more since we’re watching their social media like hawks waiting for news.

The mystery of Riot Fest isn't that mysterious.

Had a third headliner they couldn't close.
Thought they could replace them and couldn't close that either.
Are currently re-arranging schedules to put an existing act in the closing slot and reorganizing set-times and in some cases, dates, that certain bands will be playing. That takes a lot of coordination.

$99 tickets, giveaways, and vendor extensions have to do with shitty sales and they're trying to limit the damage as much as possible.

And they aren't going to come out and say there is trouble because that will just inhibit sales more.

    source: my own assumptions.

I do t think you are too far from the truth here. Cancelling the festival isn't really an option so damage limitation comes into play. Get as many people through the gates as possible, this will increase merchandise + alcohol revenue, and satisfy vendors who they will want to return in future years.

    Beat me to it :(

Honestly at this point I say bring it on, I'm down for FOB two weekends in a row. Give me some setlist changes - could be fun.

Seriously at this point - I'm still excited and I don't even particularly care about the rest of the info since I have everything arranged. Like I'd like to know but I don't need to know. It just bums me out that the mood in the air is anger instead of excitement when we're just over 3 weeks out.

But what I am really worried about is what this means for the future of the festival. I'd be absolutely crushed if it doesn't come back anymore, and if they try to take "a year off" in 2019 I can't imagine it going well with the way they were promising the $99 tickets for people next year. Hopefully this settlement money will really be enough to hold them over lol

I don't see a way that 2019 isn't stripped back a little bit at least though. It does kind of seem like maybe this all just grew too fast and they've lost control a bit.
