I loved Hereditary, but both of them have made multiple movies far better than this. Cmon.

Mmmmmm really disagree with a lot of that interpretation. Will have to think on it a bit more to formulate my thoughts better later though.

 

A few quick thoughts about it. I think it’s interesting that the entire piece is about the film blaming Annie for her family’s downfall for being who she is and yet it doesn’t mention the scene at the grief group where she literally says exactly that. Her deepest fear is that she is being blamed for something she has no control over, and we are allowed to see that with her and feel it for her from the start.

And except for the “paint thinner as weapon” connection, I don’t think we’re ever really meant to see that her art itself has anything to do with their problems. The entire film is about how her mother sold her family out for demonic riches before the kids were even born, and if anything it’s her willingness to have a traditional family that is to blame, not her identity as an artist. Think of how often people force women to have toxic people in their lives because, “They’re family,” or “You need the help,” “Think about how you’d feel if you couldn’t see your grandchildren.” Her giving in to that familial pressure brought the evil presence back into their lives, and even though all she did was try to keep her family together and do right by them it ended up dooming them all.

 

For the record, I was not saying I agree with the piece. Just thought it was nice to see someone do a deep dive.

 

It’s definitely an interesting price. I’m glad the film is already generating this kind of discussion so soon after release.

 

So I finally saw Babadook, if you loved this, it'll surely be up your alley (They both have that Shining familial-horror legacy)

Interesting that you bumped this. This movie has been in my head today and I need to watch it again.

I’m torn between buying the movie because I loved it and never ever buying it because I don’t need the devil in my house

 

I feel like that with my copy of The Witch

 

bout to take my first dive into watching this film. after reading reviews and talking to people, I can't tell if im supposed to just terrified or disturbed

 

watched this with my bose qc's and........that subtle sub bass that frequently appears throughout the film.................

today i learned what asmr is. I feel like the score in this is that but in reverse. hope i can sleep tonight

 

I hate that I can't stop thinking about this film.

I hate that my house has stairs.

 

If it makes you feel better, I watched Veronica at my SO's place and had to go home at midnight and ride an elevator up to the 25th floor in an apartment that I lived alone in, that had a big window and a sliding door so it wasn't pitch black, just dark enough to see a silhouette of maybe a demon monster shuffling about.

 

My body is ready

 

I think I’m gonna download this tonight, get really high, and then bask in the discomfort

 

I honestly don’t think I could do that, the emotional element alone would kill me.
