Yeah, that's a low-cost add... Feels like his name would wind up between Direct Hit! and the Fever333 on that poster.

I would have zero interest in seeing him play what would almost definitely be the same 30-minute set he did opening for NFG.

Well we're officially 4 weeks away!

Last year, the schedule came out on August 10th. In 2016 it was the 30th. In 2015 it was the 19th.

So we're still in the window for the schedule, albeit without the daily line-ups and the second wave... I'm starting to think the theories about the whole "we'll just wait and release it all at once" thing might have been accurate.

We should have done a pool to see when things would have been announced, haha.

I'm just so so glad Justin Pierre didn't go the "release a boring acoustic EP as an intro to my solo career" route. I can't really think of anyone who has had success doing that, but I feel like it happens a lot when bands break up? Then again I can't think of other examples off the top of my head.

That bullshit smokescreen of "pay attention next week" (which has come and gone a week ago) has burned a lot of goodwill, regardless of historical precedent.

I can think of a few who have been fairly successful, albeit on a much smaller level (Chuck Ragan, Tim Barry). The others who have been succesful go the "full band" route (Brian Fallon, Dave Hause, Jeff Rosenstock).

Personally, I think somebody like Ryan Key is kind of fucking up by not leaning on Yellowcard a bit more (i.e., the reason people care about him).

Open with a Yellowcard song, play two originals, throw in a cover, then another Yellowcard song, then another original. Then "Ocean Avenue." Boom. Now people know who you are and got what they wanted out of your show (and he still gets to play 50% of his new EP or whatever).

Yea I'd agree with all this. I just think it's kind of I don't want to say lazy, but it kind of shows you don't really know what to do now if all you can muster up is 5 average acoustic songs. And yea I agree I get wanting to separate yourself from that and have you're own thing, but you have to ease people into it a little bit. It just feels good to genuinely love Justin's song and not just be like "ok I'll listen to the album because it's Justin".

Calling one line that 95% of the people who read that e-mail probably didn't even catch a "smokescreen" is a little dramatic...

I mean the last two Yellowcard records were very boring too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'd even go so far as to say that if you have a full album's worth of material, maybe you want to focus on that. But if all you have is an EP and you're not really all that well known as a solo act or a super strong songwriter? I don't know. I think Yellowcard fans are Yellowcards fans; they aren't William Ryan Key fans.

Either way, I'm not into seeing him at a festival unless he gets a full band or whatever.

OK, let's call it a tease, then. The adjective I used still stands.

I thought they both had some decent songs, but nothing I was overly excited about.

Just coming after two incredible comeback records (three if you want to count Paper Walls) those were huge letdowns

Yea I definitely agree with that too. A 5 song ep is not enough to tour on much and that's going to be 3 times this year he is here if he's doing Riot. And that's another thing I'm happy is we're diving headfirst into Justin's solo career with a fully formed album. Can you tell I'm excited about this album?

I've always been a pretty casual fan, but When You're Through Thinking is pretty easily my favorite YC album, so I'd agree with you. I at least appreciated them trying something new on Lift A Sail and enjoyed One Bedroom and Transmission Home a good amount, but he last one was so forgettable I honestly can't remember a song on it.

Dillinger Four are playing a show with Red Fang and the Cro-Mags on Saturday in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Wonder if the Cro-Mags might wind up getting added...

Also: I was anticipating an announcement today, given the timing of Ryan's FB post last night but LOL.

I know, right? I was anticipating something. Even if it were an obnoxious "announcement for an announcement for an announcement" kinda thing.

The Twitter account is getting active again. So. Maybe we'll know more by September 13th.

Depends on who you ask... There's some people who think that Riot Fest is going to get canceled (although these people are saying that just because of the delays).

That being said? That really sucks.
