Foxing - Nearer My God (August 10, 2018) Album • Page 67

This seems like an album that will take a while to fully appreciate. Each time I listen to it I notice something new.

 

I swear I almost have this foxing record done - I go through so many mental gymnastics when writing reviews and continually tweak because even a decade plus into writing I still feel like I'm a fraud and need to prove myself over and over and I paralyze myself from finishing reviews sometimes until I get my head back on straight.

You're always a good writer, but maybe that's because you do the continuous tweaks? Either way, whenever you say 'X review will be posted on Y' I do always add a 5-7 days on to what you're predicting!

 

that is a good strategy - it's dumb I post those type of posts to motivate me to actually finish editing my shit haha

 

SF was safe

Its not a very good album

the moments on Nearer My God that sound like they ape BN are mostly from Daisy

 

I can’t say what I think about this record as a whole quite yet because I am so blown away by the first half that the second half has yet to click to that degree, last two songs being the exceptions. I reckon this will easily be one of my favorites of the year though. And this is from a casual fan. It really makes me want to revisit the first two albums.

It does have “scene classic” written all over it.

 

This was probs already posted earlier but I went back and was listening to the podcast they did with Dan Ozzi which gives some nice insight into parts of the record. Nearer My Pod by Triple Crown Records on Apple Podcasts

 

it's def my AOTY. DJDS and Kacey were fighting for that spot before but this is my clear favorite of the year.

 

Dillards and Bastardizer lull you into believeing the second half of the album isnt as good when in fact it is otherwise. Im skipping those 2 today.

 

but Dillards is one of the standouts

 

I understand the SF comparisons and I know no one in this thread means any harm by bringing it up, but I think it might be best to talk about this album on its own merits and avoid comparing it to other scene albums, especially scene albums from that band. Just personally, talking about BN still makes me pretty sad and uncomfortable, and I don't want to associate this album with those feelings in any way.

 

Also yeah Dillard's is wonderful (and so is Bastardizer but that one I get a little bit more)

 

Yeah there's definitely a BN vibe about this record, I think its obvious and we can probably just leave it at that

 

bastardizer and trapped in dillard's are my two favorite songs on the album rn

 

Even though I enjoy the songs a ton, Im not sure Ill ever be able to be completely un-critical of the several moments where it sounds so deliberately like BN. Thats just a general thing for me personally.

 

The first time I heard Bastardizer I didn't really like it but I'm crazy about it now. The chorus melody is great, I love driving it is, and Eric's vocals at the end make the song.

bastardizer is my favorite song on the record but okay

 

no but this isn't the time or place, or I don't think I ever want to have that discussion. completely different bands that went in completely different directions. All I know is I love this record and its going to be in my rotation forever probably.

 

I think if you’re going to extensively compare the two bands, do it in the dedicated thread for the band that nobody wants to think or talk about in here.

Just a recommendation. I discovered Foxing because of that band, like I have most of the bands I listen to, so I cannot help but associate the two.

 

its upsetting how many people continued to bring up BN after this post.

 

Dillards and Bastardizer are incredible.

Five Cups and Heartbeats are the only ones I'll skip. Five Cups only in the car though.

bruh if i got twelve minutes I can listen to Five Cups and a short song or I could listen to Nearer My God and Gameshark twice each haha.
