song sounds great to me, some muddiness is the tradeoff you get for sounding this big and epic in guitar driven music, do you know how hard it is to get that warm saturated distortion tone and mix it without muddiness?

I do, actually. This is a byproduct of Ed adopting Ian Miller's dials. I've been going back and forth between this and Vheissu all morning. Vheissu has so much clarity despite spinning many plates at once.

vheissu's guitar tone isn't as rich or deep as what im hearing here /shrug

but if youre going to compare the production to what is considered the gold standard of their entire discog (not in my opinion but my opinion doesnt matter) you're always going to come up short. just judge it (the production) on its own merits. it sounds great.

You can have big bass without compromising the rest of your song. I can barely hear the guitars.

im not talking about the bass at all and can hear the guitars just fine, as a matter of fact they're what ive been focusing on the most

I've only been talking about bass. You turned this into a guitar matter, not me.

you never said anything about bass until your last post lmao

  10. Why does it seem like some people always need to have something to complain about? Even manufacturing reasons at times. Yeesh.

Anyway ... Easily one of the best songs on the album. Great opener.

Anyway, I'm gonna stop beating a dead horse. If I love 80% of the record, I'll be happy. I'm glad you guys enjoy this, though.

you or someone were talking about muddiness which i said is a compromise for having guitars that super thick saturated sound you hear here, that sound contributes to muddiness like 100% of the time, its not my fault you ignored what i said

im on like my 5th listen and can make out every element just fine for the most part, the drums get kind of buried at times but its expected for a rocker like this. that big huge guitar tone in the bridge is fucking butter though.

They way this one progresses reminds me a little of Call it in the Air. This is much better tho

I think the production on both tracks is fantastic. The bass cuts really well but without feeling super muddy IMO.. Mike you need new headphones!

the other thing I like about this is how dry the vocals are, you can tell they really did this purposefully and Dustins voice holds up so well on its own.

Because I've followed the band since their inception and I don't insult people who think differently than me.

I'm just excited that they're taking chances and trying new things still. I'm sure this will grow on me over time, it's definitely enjoyable.

Yeah, I'd rather they swing and miss than opt to hit singles, something they can do as well as Tony Gwynn. (I'm not saying they struck out here, either.)

    Fight the long defeat.

I'm a fan of the electronic elements as an 'experimental' (whatever that means for a band like Thrice) move for the opening track. I appreciate the confidence to deviate from a 'Hurricane' sequel to start this record. There's clearly a muscular foundation underneath all the fuzz, and I think this song will be terrific to hear live.

Dustin's lyrics are great so far between this and 'The Grey'. Consider me stoked!

My favorite part of this song might be the Phil Collins-esque drum fill before the first chorus.
