The gossip in me is more like after her team released that info to People he realized she's too powerful and he can't get on her level and gave up! Either way I'm just glad he can't do to her what he did to rita. That was cold.

He had written some songs for her but after they broke up he wouldn't let her perform it live on tv so she had to cancel an awards show performance. It came off very controlling and bitter.
