Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Appreciate the reply given I asked quite a while back, wouldn't have blamed you for not bothering, haha. I can 100% see what you're saying with that, and compared to Brothers in particular I get what you mean. At the same time, I feel this connected to me better than, say, Play Crack The Sky and definitely moreso than The No Seatbelt Song. I think the idea that the overall theme of the song seems to be stepping into new ground lyrically for Jesse (i.e. redemption over self-flagellation) makes it stand out a little for me. Yes it's a little heavy on the metaphor and it errs to the side of tacky but how it's written and how it's performed certainly make a world of difference to how it hits, in my opinion, and the fact he performs it with sincerity makes it work.

there isn't a studio version of Sealed To Me out there is there?
i don't really wanna listen to a live cell phone vid. what i did hear sounded pretty corny, for the reasons Jason pointed out above

If the 418 thing means they're hanging it up in two Aprils from now, you gotta think they have something bigger than just "drop an album in 2016 and tour it for two years" up their sleeves. It would be weird to know with such specificity that they'll be done touring in April of 2018, considering it would be impossible to plan a tour this far in advance. Unless, they're just planning on a Coachella headline set being their final performance, which would fucking suck.

It's entirely possible that they've created enough material to release a final album or EP in April 2018, but I know that's just wishful thinking.

I love them, but they will never headline Coachella

Eh, I wouldn't be surprised. They've gained a ton of momentum just in the last month. Plus, if it's their final show, the crowd would be massive.

But clearly, it's much more likely the final show will be in NY.

Zero chance, at all. This album would need to take them to extreme new heights

    Maybe so, maybe not.

I know @irthesteve has been to Coachella many times, and I've been 3x myself...the thought of them headlining Coachella is BEYOND perposterous, final show or not.

  10. Headliners of Coachella are Guns N’ Roses and Calvin Harris. Heh, yeah, sorry, Brand New's not even in the same stratosphere.

They should play each album in full, 5 nights in a row at the new Nassau Coliseum to end it.

  12. After fans boo'd their last album shows, think they'd do that again?

But, yeah, they should do that. I'd fly out for that.

But previously, bands like Black Keys, Arcade Fire, and Kings of Leon at the height of their respective careers. All I'm saying is there is a slim possibility. And with the way they've been covered since Mene and IAAN came out, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that the release of their next album puts them into that same stratosphere.

if the new album contains "I Am a Nightmare" and "Sealed to Me", there's almost no chance that the album sends them to the same stratosphere.

Black Keys, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Vampire Weekend, Phoenix... all fit in that mold you are thinking of. But they are all indie bands at the core, that cater to the indie/hipster crowd. Never has a band from the emo/screamo/scene/whatever even come close to headlining. It's just not the right amount of genre/fan overlap

  16. All three of those bands when they headlined at least double the size of Brand New at their apex.

So you think Brand New's apex is behind them? Even with Pitchfork and Billboard finally jumping onto the bandwagon?

Edit: Apex of popularity, not apex of musical quality.

  19. So many shows would be empty. Haha.

"How are we doing Los Angel...where is everyone?"

  21. Yes. And they're not gonna turn around and release an album that sold 6 million copies world wide like Kings of Leon did.

(Also Pitchfork gave a 6.9 to Deja.)

Yes...but a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts

2018 is really okay, they're probably wishing they had rested their laurels after Daisy anyway. A farewell EP with Out of Range/Sealed to Me/Mene would have been fine. Although two more years of BN is cool, my biggest fear at this point is the band going out on anything less than what we know they're capable of.

Ugh even in made up scenarios Kevin Devine is still a sweetheart.

That's fair. Obviously they're not going multi-platinum (or even platinum), but I do think they've picked up a pretty fair amount of fans in the last year. Enough to be considered for a Coachella headliner? No, but who knows where they'll be after this album release.

And yes, Pitchfork did give them a fair score on Deja, but then they went and ignored them for 13 years.
