I'm of the mindset that majority, if not 100%, of what SP does is intentionally problematic and set in the 80s era of sexism and stupidity. Isn't that the joke really? Maybe I'm giving them too much credit here.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Steel Panther has been problematic since Day 1 of their existence. The fact that they'd put something like that out is among the least surprising things they've ever done...especially when you consider their past hits entitled "Eatin Ain't Cheatin" and "It Won't Suck Itself". It's their schtick, and it sucks.

Yeah, it's all done as "just a joke" but that doesn't make it any less problematic.

  10. The man is also a loud Trump supporter, so am I surprised he'd be this blatant about this ancient, terrible take? No. No I am not. I just... hate... it... all...

I know the accusations against him. I do not know the name of the victim. Why do people act like victims get famous?

They just want to protect abusers and send more violence towards the women who come forward against them. Its a fully illogical claim meant to demean and intimidate.

It would seem that the washed quasi celeb who ended up on tmz to make an incendiary comment about his friend's rape allegations is most likely to be the one "looking for fame" here

  17. Washed up or not, stuff like this is hugely painful (especially for former superfans and abuse survivors like myself). My entire heart is with Melissa because I can't even imagine. And as far as I'm concerned Brian can finish losing his voice and the world will be better off.

And tbh as much as someone may wanna call them washed up, they are iconic to an entire generations adolescence. They may not be selling like they did, but their name will always bring about A-list recognition. Because of this some people will automatically defend beloved things from their childhood and it would be hard af knowing your abuser/assaulter has so much unchallenged nostalgic love towards them.

I'm just more offended by the dated fucking joke that is Steel Panther. Shrug.

  20. This. The "who cares" implication (regardless of how it was meant) behind the whole calling him a has-been thing sort of downplays how important this is and how massive their legacy is and I feel like it does this situation a huge disservice for survivors and for Carter's survivor in particular. Thanks for articulating what I was having trouble finding the words for.

  21. (And that "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" song is actually a pretty good sized hit. It's like #17 on Top 40 right now.)

i totally get it, and i apologize for my wording and gut reaction. i'd feel the same way if someone disrespected nsync. just upset that brian would just write it off victims as 'attention seekers' like their feelings don't matter.

People are often illogical. Like the woman who claimed Conor Oberst raped her, why? What was there to gain from that? I still find that so baffling. I guess attention, and while that's an outlier for the most part, but she was a big fan of his apparently.

it's still disturbing he had to go through that.
