Nicole from doll skin talked about how bad and uncomfortable it was especially after feeling they grew this tour and they said she was “talking shit”, which is always great to hear a man minimize women calling them out for misogyny as petty drama. I mean tbh, I don’t expect better but it annoys me anyway

 

I feel like it would be very telling to know how they responded to their fans who asked them to play that song every day of the summer. I have to imagine they either avoided the topic entirely by saying something like, yeah, sorry, it’s not on our set list, or they said something about how they aren’t “allowed” or “supposed” to play it without explaining why. Clearly they don’t take the moment to educate their fans and say “We realized those lyrics aren’t cool and we should stop singing them, sorry!”

It gives me the impression that the whole time they were like "yeah fuck this" and just did the program to stay on Warped Tour.

Yep. Definitely the kinda band to give opportunities to. It’s why I have a hard time with so many choices Warped and their defenders made this year.

Out of interest, which choices in particular?

 

That makeout song was stomach churningly cringe inducing and juvenile holy shit imagine putting that out into the world and thinking, “yeah this is totally not embarrassing and doesn’t make me seem like the stereotypical boyfriend who was wronged so now I’m a mysognistic child”

 

The bands on the tour and trying to play up the good they were doing. It always felt like half-measures to me.

 

They tried to justify playing it by saying it helped people through bad times and I’m like the song isn’t deep or new or good in any way and even if it was, doesn’t matter, still misogyny

 

These guys are on Rise? I thought Rise did a bit better than this. just listened to the song for the first time- this has to be a joke???

 

I mean, Rise have also put out Jonny Craig's shit so...

Yeah Rise isn't the best. Label was founded in 1991 and didn't sign a band with a female in it until Pvris came along in 2014. Plus the years of supporting Jonny Craig

 

Yeah damn, I just looked and the only band that I know has a female other than PVRIS is Le Butcherettes. Some great bands on the label, some not so great too haha

 

at least over the last few years, it's seemed like they worked with bands that were at least a step up from the other scene-y labels? like this makeout band sounds like that type of band that signs to victory and for a week everyone kinda scratches their head on how a band like that can get signed, and why a band still signs to vic.

Am I the only one extremely uncomfortable this week with all of the "Warped Tour means so much to the scene, and it's truly a tragedy that this completely pure and special thing is coming to an end" masturbatory posts coming out from dozens of bands and people I otherwise respect?
