I know people will counter protest, but at this point is it really even worth it? The police, the media, and the President are on the side of the neo-Nazis. Last year I'd say it could make a difference, but we're too far gone.

Anything done to counter this rally is just going to fuel the "many sides" narrative and perpetuate the existence of the "radical left". It isn't how it should be, but that is how the media will cover it. Instead of condemning the continued existence of Nazis, we've decided to normalize them as the "alt-right" because that is a much easier pill to swallow.

I wish I could be more optimistic, but it's tough to when the narrative carried by the media and the government is that the neo-Nazis are the ones protecting free speech, and it is the left who is wrong.

 

While I 100% agree with this sentiment, I don't think there's much choice left but to counter and counter hard. I'd rather have the media say nonsense about the radical left protesting vs there was no one there to protest nazis today.

 

Saw the story about Portland on the news, they mentioned Antifa and that “police weren’t taking any chances” this time based on the violence in Charlottesville last year. Proceeded to not mention Nazis at all

 

I don't think it's a cop...nazis gear up in a way that's modeled after police/military forces...that probably has some deeper meaning that makes me nauseous.

Antifa has been projected as scarier and the alt-right has been rebranded as "free-speech Patriots".

At the same time, the Nazis are only there to get a response. If no one is there, they get bored after 20 mins and go back to their moms basement to surf 4chan. And maybe Nazis marching unopposed through the streets will wake people up a bit.

 

Been reading the shock doctrine by Naomi Klein so this just puts things into perspective even more. Really distressing

 

Horrible way to think about this. They need to know they're outnumbered.
