I was confused when I first heard about it too. Black vinyl will always be better quality sound, but colored records can be 180g.

I'm still a vinyl noob. Lots to keep learning.

@patrfinley nope what? Amazon is showing temporarily unavailable. Thrice announced that the black 180g version was sold out. But other distributors still have copies to sell.

And I have plenty of records that aren't black that are 180g.

@airk625 maybe I didn't get the 180gram, but I was able to buy the record from amazon.

    Fight the long defeat.

Can you explain or else point me to the reason for this? Never known there to be a difference.

  5. Only thing I've ever seen on it that sounds reasonable and not like audiophile voodoo:
As far as black versus colored vinyl, remember that PVC is clear. Carbon black or black dye is added to make records black. Yellow dye makes PVC yellow, blue makes it blue etc.

The same people that say only get black say vinyl sounds best. I think they're full of shit.

Interesting; makes me wonder why they bother to dye records black at all, if clear is the natural (lack of) coloration.

The fact that we can't agree on how to label Thrice is a really, really good thing. Dumb conversation though.

Somebody Turn the Neon Down Supporter

Stay with me is a great "thrice" ballad but i think something in the vein of salt and shadow would have worked better.

I can def see what they were trying to do with Wake Up but it doesnt land. If anything is Dad or Butt rock...it is that song. Worst song on the record isnt even terrible. Sign of a great band.

My take is...improved lyrics on black honey (ie a more intersting chorus) and a circles type song to break up the onslaught of riffs would put this on par with vheissu or beggars.

I could listen to death from above and whistleblower on repeat for the next month. So god damn good

Cant wait for the show at the shrine. Road trip well worth it

    WHAT. SHUT UP. WHAT.

Unpopular opinion yes, though I wish more people held it. Agreed that TBEITBN is better, but M/m is a fine album.

Anyone know what songs they performed at the instores they did recently (or if there are videos floating around online)

I found these, but they're only partials...

I've been looking for videos from that performance, but haven't found any footage.

To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere

They played Black Honey, The Long Defeat, Stay with me, death from above and Dustin played hurricane solo

Didn't they also play Blood On The Sand?

I actually found it really nice that there weren't a ton of cameras/phones out recording. I also didn't see anyone professionally filming them, but hopefully that person was hiding in the wings and we get a professionally shot release.

nope, just the five songs @renoinexile mentioned

They actually played 5 total songs from that set. They were recorded for a future release I think.

what! I legitimately only remember the 5 songs...when did they play it?

I could have sworn they played it second but maybe i was just taking crazy pills because I was so stoked to be seeing the acoustic set... I'm grabbing my audio rip to double check since i haven't listened to it that night.

So based off this logic, would clear sound the best since there are no dyes in it?

Foot, mouth, insert; you are correct. Not sure why I was so sure they played it, I even posted like 2 minutes after the show that they had played it. Now we all know why I have to put everything in my calendar, otherwise my brain just doesn't work.

Recap of my postings from the Fingerprints acoustic show. Set: Black Honey, Death from Above, Stay with Me, The Long Defeat and then Dustin closed with Hurricane on his own. I confirmed with the sound guy that it was recorded so praying for a live at fingerprints record release at some point. They honestly sounded so good tonight. I think that the acoustic made me love the songs more Dropbox - Thrice Live at Fingerprints.m4a

I mean, I would guess just because it was the first single, it's almost weird that they didn't play it. I don't mind that they didn't, I think the setlist was great. I'm with you though, I was second guessing myself since I didn't make a setlist note like I usually do.

I noticed that Wake Up is my least favorite song on the album, and yet I find myself humming it very often, alongside Hurricane and The Long Defeat, my two favorite songs. again, sign of a great band.

Yeah, as much as I want to see video of that performance, it's refreshing to see people actually watch a show rather than film it.

relistened to beggars, definitely reminded me that this spacey sound is what i want from thrice more than this record.

  24. Going back to a little earlier, I definitely like M/m more than this so far, but I think I liked M/m more than a lot of people and this less so, though it's been warming on me and getting stuck in my head recently.

Got the smoke variant in. Nice packaging all around. A gatefold jacket would have been nice, but I'm not complaining.
