Phil Lord and Chris Miller are making the Han Solo movie! Come on, guys, they're perfect.

    Things have changed.

The "lackluster prequels" made a combined $2B+, so people will literally pay money for anything Star Wars. That's how iconic the brand is. Disney is printing money not just off of the new films but also all the old rights (with exceptions, like the TV rights after 2020) and merchandise—plus ILM. It's not an insignificant amount of money by any means, but their ROI is going to be astronomical vs. what they paid for Lucasfilm.

I forget specifics, but did anyone (individual) have a vested financial interest in Lucasfilm? Aside from outside financiers? Or did the 4 bil all go directly to George?

It doesn't matter how much the films make. They could make back the cost of the picture and still be a success with the merchandising.

They're never gonna do a KOTOR movie, cause you can't do one without Revan, and canonizing Revan means de-canonizing the games.

I thought the games were already de-canonized?

Yeah...none of those examples really hold any water. Han Solo is one of the most iconic characters in film history. The girlfriend in Back To The Future isn't. And yeah if I'm watching those movies back to back it's super jarring when suddenly it's Elisabeth Shue.

I don't like the idea because the idea of a younger Han Solo movie insinuated younger than A New Hope, like the idea that this guy would grow into Harrison's Solo. Putting Alden Heinrich in this movie as basically the same age as A New Hope Han is stupid, it takes away the idea that this guy will one day grow into Harrison Ford Han Solo.

With all that aside, I'm more annoyed that if this is what they are doing, that they can't let anything be its own thing. Not everything has to be connected and a trailer for the next movie.

Also I just hate the idea of a young Han Solo movie in general.

  13. Casting someone else as Han Solo is a non issue to me, especially if the movie is actually good

yeah obviously if the movies good then whatever. But the majority of Star Wars fans don't want a Han Solo movie.

I have never interpreted the "young Han Solo" movie as anything other than "pre-A New Hope Han Solo". And it may still be! We don't know! Ford was in his 30s in A New Hope, Alden could be making a cameo in Rogue One as a Han Solo in his 30s and portraying Han as 25 in his solo spinoff. Who knows?!

I agree with you on one thing, I hate the idea of a Han Solo spinoff in general.

Yeah, I know it's anecdotal but I haven't spoken to anyone excited about this movie, nor have I been reading a whole lot of excitement online.

I mean really, is there anything more that we can say about that character? I don't really need to know how he met Chewbacca or how he got the Millennium Falcon or where he got those sweet pants he had in ANH.

There are millions of fans that would love to see that story, it's just we didn't necessarily have to have it live action with a new actor. That will be the #1 and only issue of telling these stories. Hopefully we can get past it.

Rumor is 40% of this is getting reshot due to the tone.

UGH no! Keep the darker tone, that was what got me excited in the first place.

    Wow, that's insane.

I guess my first thought is that, if that's true, how did Disney let production get to this point before deciding they needed to reshoot 40% of the film?

This happens more than you know. It happened to the The Thing prequel/reboot some years back, most of the effects in the film were physical with 20% being CGI. Universal for some boneheaded reason got cold feet and demanded all the effects shots to be reshot so CGI could take its place. Probably wouldn't of made the movie better if they had stayed but it is what it is.
