My friends always wind me up about them. I've only got one or two who are as passionate about them as I am. The others? 'A brand new brand new song? Is it new though? Have they only just started?' *rolls eyes*

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

For sure. Not many of my friends are into music full stop (seems insane to me haha), and aside from like 1 who adores them as much as I do many don't get the hype.
Without trying to sound pretentious or anything, I think their appeal is in the lyrics and specifically the way Jesse conveys them. The music just seems to be a way of translating and conveying the feeling behind it if that makes sense, same with bands like Foxing and Thrice. Even friends doing a degree in music don't really have an appreciation from that, so stuff like Brand New is mostly lost on them.

Ah gotcha. I was wondering just because I recognize most of the regulars especially from the BN forum on AP and wasn't sure who you were (not that it matters) I was just curious to know that's all.

And yeah def give it a proper listen. It's an amazing fucking album imo. My current AOTY.

I think at least one more album would be nice just to see what it would sound like. I am starting to feel like what we have all perceived as mysterious and interesting about Brand New is really just them not being very engaged in their own careers as musicians.

I know that there are die-hards in here but to me Brand New's worth is completely tied to their output as musicians, which in the last 7 years has consisted of 2 songs. So that fact that they are teasing their break up is pretty laughable to me. Sort of like a friend who hasn't answered any of your calls in 7 years texting you and telling you he is moving to Indonesia and he is having a going away party. It's like "Sure, I'll come over and drink your booze, but you have been a practical non-entity in my life for 7 years and I don't really care that you are moving, good luck I guess??"

Then as it gets closer and closer to him moving he keeps texting you "x more days, y more days!!" as though him moving leaving is supposed to be some grand departure of an icon and the end of some important era that, for you, had ended half a decade earlier.

THIS! After Dustin's solo album which I really liked. And now this new stellar Thrice album. Also I really like and admire that they took a much needed break and now they are back and better than ever. So if it's RIP in 2018 for BN meh at this point, I'm cool with whatever happens. At least Thrice are here to stay.

Hasn't been mentioned yet, but you are right. Possibly a new song maybe? Also maybe a mention of the whole 2018 stuff

For me, since Daisy, a lot has happened in my life. Met and started dating the woman who is now my wife. Finishing college, working through grad school. Becoming a father, with another kid on the way this Summer. Of course I've occasionally wondered what they were up to, as they are my favorite band, but never to the degree where I felt like they'd abandoned me.

Honestly doesn't feel like I've been on the edge of my seat. "Life" has distracted me pretty well, and I look at new Brand New and think, "Wow, has it really been 7 years?"

How is it possible that mwY is opening BEFORE Greater Pyrenees. Makes no sense to me.

I feel the exact same way, I said to my husband a few months ago that Daisy was only released 4 years ago and he was like "uhhhh it was more like 7" - I couldn't believe it. I'm still super excited to hear anything new from them and will always get tickets when they're playing in the area, but a longer period between releases was pretty lost on me. Their previously releases still being in heavy rotation after all these years probably also helps to quell that. They're one band I've never over-listened to or gotten sick of in the least. Radiohead might be the only other band in my life I could say that about. Think it has a lot to do with the variation between each of their LPs, stylistically.

I have to quote this because I strongly agree. I mean in many ways it's not the band's fault but yeah as an admittedly (big) fan of the band they can be VERY frustrating to follow at times. Take for example a band like Thrice. After the release of M/M they were very clear about their intentions and since coming back the roll out to the new record has been imo pretty flawless. Not that I need Brand New to do a bunch of behind the scenes videos and what not but actually updates that are not vague and that's when we finally get any sort of update. Don't want to sound like an entitled fan I know they don't owe us anything but I guess I need to focus my energies elsewhere and not get so caught up which in the last 2-3 years I am def not anymore or as much as I was before. And now this whole RIP 2018 thing again well I'm glad I'm able to let go and not really care what it means because who knows if and when they will properly address it. They know that the cult following aka their fanbase will speculate a bunch of theories which they will only benefit from in the end. Bunch of smart genius cryptic dudes eh good for them I guess.

if these shirts fit anything like the procrastinate shirt, i would recommend going one if not two sizes up, and they fit very very small.

I assume they want GP to play second since they're on BNs label. They know people will actually want to see mwY and then be forced to check out GP. If it were the other way around a lot more would show up late. I'm sure it's something they worked out with mwY.

    Maybe so, maybe not.

This is a very solid audience recording from last night. Also, the Setlist.fm set was out of order...FYI.

Yeah after posting I thought about it more and it makes sense. Being on Procrastinate GP automaticly have protégé status.

Not necessarily. I saw them open a tour with back to back dates in Detroit years ago and the only difference in sets was the addition of one song, Jesse playing Good Man solo

Has there ever been any thought to Brand New 2000-2018 could just be the end of the band Brand New and the beginning of them doing something else musically under a different moniker
