No worries, it was a page or two back by the time you replied to me!

I try to read all the stuff you post in here if that helps! Sometimes I miss stuff because I fall like ten pages behind and just skip to the most recent page, but usually it all comes back around or I check the MENA thread

I would add my Twitter but most of the time I just reply to a Trump tweet calling him a dipshit. Not a whole lot of great content there

Yeah, to me this reads as Amazon reframing the situation to avoid blame. Especially the last paragraph is the kind of non-response to tech + social issues that I really hate:
"We continue to recommend that...." it's their product. They write the terms of usage, they determine what inputs are valid for a user to enter. They could outright restrict people from using confidence levels below a certain threshold. They could invest more in educating law enforcement as to how to properly use their software.

The mindset of the bolded bit bothers me most. The risk here isn't burning pizza, it's potentially arresting innocent people. Amazon's a gigantic company with thousands of smart people working for it. They could spend time taking this issue seriously and figuring out ways to make sure this kind of misuse doesn't happen. They just don't seem to want to.

  19. It's gonna be so sick when the next president is a progressive Dem but passes the Patriot act part 2 and calls it the FUCK RUSSIA Act and every anti Trump idiot supports it unquestioningly and then it is immediately used solely to kill black activists

    That's the endgame here

Legitimate question, what do you see as the best outcome/best case scenario of all this Russia stuff?

  22. Election security through improved technology, candidates and politicians learning not to click on phishing links or have sensitive information on unsecured, unencrypted private computers or servers. That would solve any issues of actual "hacking" - of course how easy new technology to secure elections is is a question I don't have the expertise to answer but I don't see any other way to address actual literal hacking by foreign countries.

In terms of Russia trying to "influence" the election through propaganda, whatever effect that might have would almost definitely be cancelled out by automatic voter registration and the re-expansion (and further expansion) of the voting rights act, election day as a federal holiday, and campaign finance reform. Trying to stop Russia from using twitter bots or buying facebook ads is a dead end and I do not at all buy that those things had any effect on anything anyway. How about everyone in Europe and North America signs a binding, strict treaty forbidding "meddling" in any foreign elections? Of course no US president would ever sign that.

In terms of collusion, I don't see that many institutional change or new laws are necessary. I don't see how exactly they would stop anything anyway, these laws all exist now. More stringent enforcement of the emoluments clause that doesn't rely simply on norms might help somewhat. Mandatory publication of tax returns, too. Codifying norms as laws is the only changes that could be made to address the collusion I think.

What should absolutely not be being done is acting like Russia has declared war on the United States. If that is the case then the United States is also at war with every country in Latin America and the Middle East - and in fact by that metric we've been at war with Russia for 25 years already. It's dangerous, nonsensical fearmongering at best and blatant warmongering at worst.

But by vandalizing her yacht that means she has to pay someone to fix it so instead of hoarding all of her money for herself she's putting it back into the economy and contributing. Basically what I'm saying is we need to vandalize more rich people's yachts
