I don't think there is reliable evidence that anything you're saying is accurate

  2. @GEM37 I mean for starters, I'd be willing to bet their stance on those social issues (true or not, I'm not going to take Fat Mike's paraphrasing of an event for the whole truth) was pretty much all hindering on the religion they subscribed to, which they've dropped and haven't claimed to be a part of for years. Their Christianity came first and the conservatism was simply a byproduct.

Secondly, any personal belief they have on those social issues has literally zero bearing on their success. No one liked them because of what they happened to think about gay rights or abortions -- at the very least people liked them because they claimed to be Christians, and at the very most people like them because they were a great band and easy to connect with. You're acting like they were going out on stage and actively speaking out against gay marriage, picketing abortion clinics, or like donating their profits to stop those things from happening or something. They're a good band that at one point probably held some off base principles, but they kept it all entirely to themselves and there is really no evidence they supported any of it at all.

Tbh it sounds like you just don't like the band and are just looking to scrape up any stretch of a reason to hate them. By your logic, your post should be about any band or artist considered influential that happens to have conservative beliefs -- but for whatever reason you decided to single out one band. One band, which none of us know for sure if any of this applies to because the band never even spoke a word about it publicly.

Can someone give me Cliff Notes of what this dude is rambling about?

  4. Idk I don't want to go too far down into a rabbit hole with this one, it just seems like this is a case of an unjustified assumption being passed off as an unpopular opinion

Honestly, I don't know why you'd rant and dissent about Underoath when bands like For Today exists. If anything, direct your ire towards them, especially since a member of that band went out of his way to prove that he was a homophobic twit.

He doesn't like Underoath and is justifying it partially because of conservative social views supposedly held by unknown members of the band based entirely on a statement made by Fat Mike ten years ago that was pretty likely said in jest.

Oh, you mean the Fat Mike who's forever been a hateful dick and total caricature of the worst in punk culture? That guy? Okay.

    I'm with you.

I particularly thought Happiness was so well constructed throughout. I almost think it is unfair to compare the two because one is exciting and entertaining for its rawness the other is a band honing their skills.

I'm hesitant to label it elitism but it really frustrates me when I meet people that just won't seem to give bands late material a chance because they just can't get over it not being their discovery or wave to catch.

I knowwwww! I'm terrible! I've got her written down in my journal as artists to check out! I swear I'll find the time this weekend to sit down with it. I've heard a TON of great things about her, so I'm excited!

A few pages back there was a discussion about carly rae jepsen being too sugary and idealistic and while I do think she has cynical songs as well, I'm so glad that her music is for the most part so hopeful and positive and idealistic. I was feeling really down today and didn't wanna get out of bed cause all the depressing news and I got into my car and blasted her music and it cheered me up immensly. Without realizing it she def has become my cheer up music the past few years where I can just forget about everything and dance the problems away. Love her!

I know this isn't an unpopular opinion lol but when I was listening to her it reminded me of the discussion on here

I hate the term one hit wonder, first of all it's dismissive of great bands like Fountains of Wayne and Nada Surf, plus it's really hard to get even one song on the radio, that shouldn't be taken lightly

It's often used incorrectly as well. I used to get annoyed at those VH1 or E! "Best One Hit Wonders!" lists because so many had more than one hit. They'd be like "Such and such managed to score five more hits but none had the same impact as their biggest number 1" like words have meaning and that's more than one hit!!

I hate it when songs are described as "fun". Not that everything I listen to has me crying myself to sleep but there's just something about that word that irritates the hell out of me.

I like letlive.'s new album, which apparently is almost as controversial around here as my stance on pineapple as a pizza topping.

    The rivalry is back on

What don't you like about it? I don't like it much when it's used as an almost condescending word, implying that music isn't good if it's just "fun". Otherwise, I have no problem with music being fun.

I dunno how to explain it haha. I think it just makes a song sound like it's throwaway or lacking in substance maybe? Actually I think tend to only notice when it's used as a reason for liking something rather than being negative condescending like you said. Like "Oh come on it's a fun song!". Again not that I only like deadly serious stuff but I've never listened to like a fast/poppy song and thought "That was so fun!". Maybe I'm just a grouch haha.

Be kind; everyone is on their own journey.

Never listened to them before this latest album dropped, but as soon as I heard the "May..ay..ay..ay..ayy" fiasco 1 min. into the first track it caught my attention in a 'not so great' way...not a fan.

I describe songs as "cute and fun" a lot lol. Towards songs that are so happy and catchy that it makes me wanna bust into dance like my life is a musical.
